We investigate the generalized p-spin models that contain arbitrary diagonal operators U with no reflection symmetry. We derive general equations that give an opportunity to uncover the behavior of the system near the glass transition at different (continuous) p. The quadrupole glass with J=1 is considered as an illustrating example. It is shown that the crossover from continuous to discontinuous glass transition to one-step replica breaking solution takes place at p=3.3 for this model. For p <2+Delta p, where Delta p= 0.5 is a finite value, stable 1RSB-solution disappears. This behaviour is strongly different from that of the p-spin Ising glass model.
We construct and analyze a family of $M$-component vectorial spin systems which exhibit glass transitions and jamming within supercooled paramagnetic states without quenched disorder. Our system is defined on lattices with connectivity $c=alpha M$ and becomes exactly solvable in the limit of large number of components $M to infty$. We consider generic $p$-body interactions between the vectorial Ising/continuous spins with linear/non-linear potentials. The existence of self-generated randomness is demonstrated by showing that the random energy model is recovered from a $M$-component ferromagnetic $p$-spin Ising model in $M to infty$ and $p to infty$ limit. In our systems the quenched disorder, if present, and the self-generated disorder act additively. Our theory provides a unified mean-field theoretical framework for glass transitions of rotational degree of freedoms such as orientation of molecules in glass forming liquids, color angles in continuous coloring of graphs and vector spins of geometrically frustrated magnets. The rotational glass transitions accompany various types of replica symmetry breaking. In the case of repulsive hardcore interactions in the spin space, continuous the criticality of the jamming or SAT/UNSTAT transition becomes the same as that of hardspheres.
The left-right chiral and ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic double spin-glass clock model, with the crucially even number of states q=4 and in three dimensions d=3, has been studied by renormalization-group theory. We find, for the first time to our knowledge, four different spin-glass phases, including conventional, chiral, and quadrupolar spin-glass phases, and phase transitions between spin-glass phases. The chaoses, in the different spin-glass phases and in the phase transitions of the spin-glass phases with the other spin-glass phases, with the non-spin-glass ordered phases, and with the disordered phase, are determined and quantified by Lyapunov exponents. It is seen that the chiral spin-glass phase is the most chaotic spin-glass phase. The calculated phase diagram is also otherwise very rich, including regular and temperature-inverted devils staircases and reentrances.
The present paper considers some classical ferromagnetic lattice--gas models, consisting of particles that carry $n$--component spins ($n=2,3$) and associated with a $D$--dimensional lattice ($D=2,3$); each site can host one particle at most, thus implicitly allowing for hard--core repulsion; the pair interaction, restricted to nearest neighbors, is ferromagnetic, and site occupation is also controlled by the chemical potential $mu$. The models had previously been investigated by Mean Field and Two--Site Cluster treatments (when D=3), as well as Grand--Canonical Monte Carlo simulation in the case $mu=0$, for both D=2 and D=3; the obtained results showed the same kind of critical behaviour as the one known for their saturated lattice counterparts, corresponding to one particle per site. Here we addressed by Grand--Canonical Monte Carlo simulation the case where the chemical potential is negative and sufficiently large in magnitude; the value $mu=-D/2$ was chosen for each of the four previously investigated counterparts, together with $mu=-3D/4$ in an additional instance. We mostly found evidence of first order transitions, both for D=2 and D=3, and quantitatively characterized their behaviour. Comparisons are also made with recent experimental results.
URh_2Ge_2 occupies an extraordinary position among the heavy-electron 122-compounds, by exhibiting a previously unidentified form of magnetic correlations at low temperatures, instead of the usual antiferromagnetism. Here we present new results of ac and dc susceptibilities, specific heat and neutron diffraction on single-crystalline as-grown URh_2Ge_2. These data clearly indicate that crystallographic disorder on a local scale produces spin glass behavior in the sample. We therefore conclude that URh_2Ge_2 is a 3D Ising-like, random-bond, heavy-fermion spin glass.
We investigate generalized Sherrington--Kirkpatrick glassy systems without reflection symmetry. In the neighbourhood of the transition temperature we in general uncover the structure of the glass state building the full-replica-symmetry breaking solution. Physical example of explicitly constructed solution is given.
