In this paper we prove that the generating series of the Hodge integrals over the moduli space of stable curves is a solution of a certain deformation of the KdV hierarchy. This hierarchy is constructed in the framework of the Dubrovin-Zhang theory of the hierarchies of the topological type. It occurs that our deformation of the KdV hierarchy is closely related to the hierarchy of the Intermediate Long Wave equation.

The Hodge tau-function is a generating function for the linear Hodge integrals. It is also a tau-function of the KP hierarchy. In this paper, we first present the Virasoro constraints for the Hodge tau-function in the explicit form of the Virasoro equations. The expression of our Virasoro constraints is simply a linear combination of the Virasoro operators, where the coefficients are restored from a power series for the Lambert W function. Then, using this result, we deduce a simple version of the Virasoro constraints for the linear Hodge partition function, where the coefficients are restored from the Gamma function. Finally, we establish the equivalence relation between the Virasoro constraints and polynomial recursion formula for the linear Hodge integrals.

We give a proof of Alexandrovs conjecture on a formula connecting the Kontsevich-Witten and Hodge tau-functions using only the Virasoro operators. This formula has been confirmed up to an unknown constant factor. In this paper, we show that this factor is indeed equal to one by investigating series expansions for the Lambert W function on different points.
The Dubrovin-Zhang hierarchy is a Hamiltonian infinite-dimensional integrable system associated to a semi-simple cohomological field theory or, alternatively, to a semi-simple Dubrovin-Frobenius manifold. Under an extra assumption of homogeneity, Dubrovin and Zhang conjectured that there exists a second Poisson bracket that endows their hierarchy with a bi-Hamiltonian structure. More precisely, they gave a construction for the second bracket, but the polynomiality of its coefficients in the dispersion parameter expansion is yet to be proved. In this paper we use the bi-Hamiltonian recursion and a set of relations in the tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves derived by Liu and Pandharipande in order to analyze the second Poisson bracket of Dubrovin and Zhang. We give a new proof of a theorem of Dubrovin and Zhang that the coefficients of the dispersion parameter expansion of the second bracket are rational functions with prescribed singularities. We also prove that all terms in the expansion of the second bracket in the dispersion parameter that cannot be realized by polynomials because they have negative degree do vanish, thus partly confirming the conjecture of Dubrovin and Zhang.

We consider solutions of the matrix KP hierarchy that are trigonometric functions of the first hierarchical time $t_1=x$ and establish the correspondence with the spin generalization of the trigonometric Calogero-Moser system on the level of hierarchies. Namely, the evolution of poles $x_i$ and matrix residues at the poles $a_i^{alpha}b_i^{beta}$ of the solutions with respect to the $k$-th hierarchical time of the matrix KP hierarchy is shown to be given by the Hamiltonian flow with the Hamiltonian which is a linear combination of the first $k$ higher Hamiltonians of the spin trigonometric Calogero-Moser system with coordinates $x_i$ and with spin degrees of freedom $a_i^{alpha}, , b_i^{beta}$. By considering evolution of poles according to the discrete time matrix KP hierarchy we also introduce the integrable discrete time version of the trigonometric spin Calogero-Moser system.

We study the asymptotic behavior of a special smooth solution y(x,t) to the second member of the Painleve I hierarchy. This solution arises in random matrix theory and in the study of Hamiltonian perturbations of hyperbolic equations. The asymptotic behavior of y(x,t) if xto pminfty (for fixed t) is known and relatively simple, but it turns out to be more subtle when x and t tend to infinity simultaneously. We distinguish a region of algebraic asymptotic behavior and a region of elliptic asymptotic behavior, and we obtain rigorous asymptotics in both regions. We also discuss two critical transitional asymptotic regimes.
