We introduce a mechanism for generating higher order rogue waves (HRWs) of the nonlinear Schrodinger(NLS) equation: the progressive fusion and fission of $n$ degenerate breathers associated with a critical eigenvalue $lambda_0$, creates an order $n$ HRW. By adjusting the relative phase of the breathers at the interacting area, it is possible to obtain different types of HRWs. The value $lambda_0$ is a zero point of the eigenfunction of the Lax pair of the NLS equation and it corresponds to the limit of the period of the breather tending to infinity. By employing this mechanism we prove two conjectures regarding the total number of peaks, as well as a decomposition rule in the circular pattern of an order $n$ HRW.

We study higher order KdV equations from the GL(2,$mathbb{R}$) $cong$ SO(2,1) Lie group point of view. We find elliptic solutions of higher order KdV equations up to the ninth order. We argue that the main structure of the trigonometric/hyperbolic/elliptic $N$-soliton solutions for higher order KdV equations is the same as that of the original KdV equation. Pointing out that the difference is only the time dependence, we find $N$-soliton solutions of higher order KdV equations can be constructed from those of the original KdV equation by properly replacing the time-dependence. We discuss that there always exist elliptic solutions for all higher order KdV equations.
In a recent paper we have considered the long time asymptotics of the periodic Toda lattice under a short range perturbation and we have proved that the perturbed lattice asymptotically approaches a modulated lattice. In the present paper we capture the higher order asymptotics, at least away from some resonance regions. In particular we prove that the decay rate is $O(t^{-1/2})$. Our proof relies on the asymptotic analysis of the associated Riemann-Hilbert factorization problem, which is here set on a hyperelliptic curve. As in previous studies of the free Toda lattice, the higher order asymptotics arise from local Riemann-Hilbert factorization problems on small crosses centered on the stationary phase points. We discover that the analysis of such a local problem can be done in a chart around each stationary phase point and reduces to a Riemann--Hilbert factorization problem on the complex plane. This result can then be pulled back to the hyperelliptic curve.

Heisenberg-type higher order symmetries are studied for both classical and quantum mechanical systems separable in cartesian coordinates. A few particular cases of this type of superintegrable systems were already considered in the literature, but here they are characterized in full generality together with their integrability properties. Some of these systems are defined only in a region of $mathbb R^n$, and in general they do not include bounded solutions. The quantum symmetries and potentials are shown to reduce to their superintegrable classical analogs in the $hbar to0$ limit.
The double-periodic solutions of the focusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation have been previously obtained by the method of separation of variables. We construct these solutions by using an algebraic method with two eigenvalues. Furthermore, we characterize the Lax spectrum for the double-periodic solutions and analyze rogue waves arising on their background. Magnification of the rogue waves is studied numerically.
General high-order rogue wave solutions for the (1+1)-dimensional Yajima-Oikawa (YO) system are derived by using Hirotas bilinear method and the KP-hierarchy reduction technique. These rogue wave solutions are presented in terms of determinants in which the elements are algebraic expressions. The dynamics of first and higher-order rogue wave are investigated in details for different values of the free parameters. It is shown that the fundamental (first-order) rogue waves can be classified into three different patterns: bright, intermediate and dark ones. The high-order rogue waves correspond to the superposition of fundamental rogue waves. Especially, compared with the nonlinear Schodinger equation, there exists an essential parameter alpha to control the pattern of rogue wave for both first- and high-order rogue waves since the YO system does not possess the Galilean invariance.
