We investigate the notions of strict independence and strict non-forking, and establish basic properties and connections between the two. In particular it follows from our investigation that in resilient theories strict non-forking is symmetric. Based on this study, we develop notions of weight which characterize NTP2, dependence and strong dependence. Many of our proofs rely on careful analysis of sequences that witness dividing. We prove simple characterizations of such sequences in resilient theories, as well as of Morley sequences which are witnesses. As a by-product we obtain information on types co-dominated by generically stable types in dependent theories. For example, we prove that every Morley sequence in such a type is a witness.

We study pairs of reals that are mutually Martin-L{o}f random with respect to a common, not necessarily computable probability measure. We show that a generalized version of van Lambalgens Theorem holds for non-computable probability measures, too. We study, for a given real $A$, the emph{independence spectrum} of $A$, the set of all $B$ so that there exists a probability measure $mu$ so that $mu{A,B} = 0$ and $(A,B)$ is $mutimesmu$-random. We prove that if $A$ is r.e., then no $Delta^0_2$ set is in the independence spectrum of $A$. We obtain applications of this fact to PA degrees. In particular, we show that if $A$ is r.e. and $P$ is of PA degree so that $P otgeq_{T} A$, then $A oplus P geq_{T} 0$.
We characterize thorn-independence in a variety of structures, focusing on the field of real numbers expanded by predicate defining a dense multiplicative subgroup, G, satisfying the Mann property and whose pth powers are of finite index in G. We also show such structures are super-rosy and eliminate imaginaries up to codes for small sets.

This paper explores how a pluralist view can arise in a natural way out of the day-to-day practice of modern set theory. By contrast, the widely accepted orthodox view is that there is an ultimate universe of sets $V$, and it is in this universe that mathematics takes place. From this view, the purpose of set theory is learning the truth about $V$. It has become apparent, however, that the phenomenon of independence - those questions left unresolved by the axioms - holds a central place in the investigation. This paper introduces the notion of independence, explores the primary tool (soundness) for establishing independence results, and shows how a plurality of models arises through the investigation of this phenomenon. Building on a familiar example from Euclidean geometry, a template for independence proofs is established. Applying this template in the domain of set theory leads to a consideration of forcing, the tool par excellence for constructing universes of sets. Fifty years of forcing has resulted in a profusion of universes exhibiting a wide variety of characteristics - a multiverse of set theories. Direct study of this multiverse presents technical challenges due to its second-order nature. Nonetheless, there are certain nice local neighborhoods of the multiverse that are amenable to first-order analysis, and emph{set-theoretic geology} studies just such a neighborhood, the collection of grounds of a given universe $V$ of set theory. I will explore some of the properties of this collection, touching on major concepts, open questions, and recent developments.
Finite strict gammoids, introduced in the early 1970s, are matroids defined via finite digraphs equipped with some set of sinks: a set of vertices is independent if it admits a linkage to these sinks. An independent set is maximal precisely if it admits a linkage onto the sinks. In the infinite setting, this characterization of the maximal independent sets need not hold. We identify a type of substructure as the unique obstruction to the characterization. We then show that the sets linkable onto the sinks form the bases of a (possibly non-finitary) matroid precisely when the substructure does not occur.

An almost non-abelian extension of the Rieffel deformation is presented in this work. The non-abelicity comes into play by the introduction of unitary groups which are dependent of the infinitesimal generators of $SU(n)$. This extension is applied to quantum mechanics and quantum field theory.
