To advance hierarchial equations of motion as a standard theory for quantum dissipative dynamics, we put forward a mixed Heisenberg--Schrodinger scheme with block-matrix implementation on efficient evaluation of nonlinear optical response function. The new approach is also integrated with optimized hierarchical theory and numerical filtering algorithm. Different configurations of coherent two-dimensional spectroscopy of model excitonic dimer systems are investigated, with focus on the effects of intermolecular transfer coupling and bi-exciton interaction.

We present single- and multiple-quantum correlation $J$-spectroscopy detected in zero ($<!!1$~$mu$G) magnetic field using a Rb vapor-cell magnetometer. At zero field the spectrum of ethanol appears as a mixture of carbon isotopomers, and correlation spectroscopy is useful in separating the two composite spectra. We also identify and observe the zero-field equivalent of a double-quantum transition in ${}^{13}$C$_2$-acetic acid, and show that such transitions are of use in spectral assignment. Two-dimensional spectroscopy further improves the high resolution attained in zero-field NMR since selection rules on the coherence-transfer pathways allow for the separation of otherwise overlapping resonances into distinct cross-peaks.

The hierarchical equations of motion theory for Drude dissipation is optimized, with a convenient convergence criterion proposed in advance of numerical propagations. The theoretical construction is on basis of a Pad{e} spectrum decomposition that has been qualified to be the best sum-over-poles scheme for quantum distribution function. The resulting hierarchical dynamics under the {em apriori} convergence criterion are exemplified with a benchmark spin-boson system, and also the transient absorption and two-dimensional spectroscopy of a model exciton dimer system.
Recent advances in techniques for generating quantum light have stimulated research on novel spectroscopic measurements using quantum entangled photons. One such spectroscopy technique utilizes non-classical correlations among entangled photons to enable measurements with enhanced sensitivity and selectivity. Here, we investigate spectroscopic measurement utilizing entangled three photons. In this measurement, time-resolved entangled photon spectroscopy with monochromatic pumping [J. Chem. Phys. 153, 051102 (2020).] is integrated with the frequency-dispersed two-photon counting technique, which suppresses undesired accidental photon counts in the detector and thus allows one to separate the weak desired signal. This time-resolved frequency-dispersed two-photon counting signal, which is a function of two frequencies, is shown to provide the same information as that of coherent two-dimensional optical spectra. The spectral distribution of the phase-matching function works as a frequency filter to selectively resolve a specific region of the two-dimensional spectra, whereas the excited-state dynamics under investigation are temporally resolved in the time region longer than the entanglement time. The signal is not subject to Fourier limitations on the joint temporal and spectral resolution, and therefore, it is expected to be useful for investigating complex molecular systems in which multiple electronic states are present within a narrow energy range.

The evaluation of exact (Hartree--Fock, HF) exchange operator is a crucial ingredient for the accurate description of electronic structure in periodic systems through ab initio and hybrid density functional approaches. An efficient formulation of periodic HF exchange in LCAO representation presented here is based on the concentric atomic density fitting (CADF) approximation, a domain-free local density fitting approach in which the product of two atomic orbitals (AOs) is approximated using a linear combination of fitting basis functions centered at the same nuclei as the AOs in that product. Significant reduction in the computational cost of exact exchange is demonstrated relative to the conventional approach due to avoiding the need to evaluate four-center two-electron integrals, with sub-millihartree/atom errors in absolute Hartree-Fock energies and good cancellation of fitting errors in relative energies. Novel aspects of the evaluation of the Coulomb contribution to the Fock operator, such as the use of real two-center multipole expansions and spheropole-compensated unit cell densities are also described.
The two- and three-body Coulomb explosion of carbonyl sulfide (OCS) by 790 nm, 50 fs laser pulses focussed to $approx $ 10$^{16}$ Wcm$^{-2}$ has been investigated by three-dimensional covariance mapping technique. For the first time in a triatomic molecule, a single charge state, in this case the trication, has been observed to dissociate into two distinct energy channels. With the aid of a three dimensional visualization technique to reveal the ionization hierarchy, evidence is presented for the existence of two sets of ionization pathways resulting from these two initial states. While one group of ions can be modeled using a Classical enhanced ionization model, the second group, consisting of mainly asymmetric channels, can not. The results provide clear evidence that an enhanced ionization approach must also be accompanied by an appreciation of the effects of excited ionic states and multi-electronic processes.
