We explore a Z boson with family-nonuniversal couplings to charged leptons. The general effect of Z-Z mixing, of both kinetic and mass types, is included in the analysis. Adopting a model-independent approach, we perform a comprehensive study of constraints on the leptonic Z couplings from currently available experimental data on a number of flavor-conserving and flavor-changing transitions. Detailed comparisons are made to extract the most stringent bounds on the leptonic couplings. Such information is fed into predictions of various processes that may be experimentally probed in the near future.

Flavor-changing and CP-violating interactions of Z to fermions are generally present in models with extra U(1) gauge symmetry that are string-inspired or related to broken gauged family symmetry. We study the consequences of such couplings in fermion electric dipole moments, muon g-2, and K and B meson mixings. From experimental limits or measured values, we constrain the off-diagonal Z couplings to fermions. Some of these constraints are comparable or stronger than the existing constraints obtained from other observables.
Rare $B$ meson decays offer an opportunity to probe a light hidden $Z$ boson. In this work we explore a new channel $B_q to gamma Z$ ($q = d, s$) followed by a cascade decay of $Z$ into an invisible (neutrino or dark matter) or charged lepton pair $ell^+ ell^-$ ($ell=e ,mu)$. The study is based on a simplified effective model where the down quark sector has tiny flavor-changing neutral current couplings with $Z$. For the first time, we calculate ${rm BR}(B_q to gamma Z)$ at the leading power of $1/m_b$ and $1/E_gamma$. Confronting with the strong constraints from semi-invisible decays of $B$ meson, we find that the branching ratio for $B_d to {rm invisible} + gamma$ can be larger than its Standard Model prediction, leaving a large room for new physics, in particular for light dark matter. Additionally, the branching ratio for $B_d to e^+ e^- gamma$ can also be sizable when the corresponding flavor violating $Z$ coupling to quarks is of the axial-vector type. On the other hand, the predicted branching ratios of $B_d to mu^+ mu^- gamma$ and $B_s to ell^+ ell^- gamma$ are severely constrained by the experimental measurements.
The ATLAS and CMS collaborations of the LHC have observed that the Higgs boson decays into the bottom quark-antiquark pair, and have also established that the Higgs coupling with the top quark-antiquark pair is instrumental in one of the modes for Higgs production. This underlines the discovery of the Yukawa force at the LHC. We demonstrate the impact of this discovery on the Higgs properties that are related to the dynamics of electroweak symmetry breaking. We show that these measurements have considerably squeezed the allowed window for new physics contributing to the Higgs couplings with the weak gauge bosons and the third generation quarks. The expected constraints at the HL-LHC and future Higgs factories are also shown. We project these constraints on the parameter space of a few motivated scenarios beyond the Standard Model. We pick them under two broad categories, namely, the composite Higgs and its RS dual, as well as various types of multi-Higgs models. The latter category includes models with singlet scalars, Type I, II and BGL-type two-Higgs doublet models, and models with scalar triplets a la Georgi and Machacek.
Determining the spin and the parity quantum numbers of the recently discovered Higgs-like boson at the LHC is a matter of great importance. In this paper, we consider the possibility of using the kinematics of the tagging jets in Higgs production via the vector boson fusion (VBF) process to test the tensor structure of the Higgs-vector boson ($HVV$) interaction and to determine the spin and CP properties of the observed resonance. We show that an anomalous $HVV$ vertex, in particular its explicit momentum dependence, drastically affects the rapidity between the two scattered quarks and their transverse momenta and, hence, the acceptance of the kinematical cuts that allow to select the VBF topology. The sensitivity of these observables to different spin-parity assignments, including the dependence on the LHC center of mass energy, are evaluated. In addition, we show that in associated Higgs production with a vector boson some kinematical variables, such as the invariant mass of the system and the transverse momenta of the two bosons and their separation in rapidity, are also sensitive to the spin--parity assignments of the Higgs--like boson.
The next-to-leading-order electroweak corrections to $ppto l^+l^-/bar u u+gamma+X$ production, including all off-shell effects of intermediate Z bosons in the complex-mass scheme, are calculated for LHC energies, revealing the typically expected large corrections of tens of percent in the TeV range. Contributions from quark-photon and photon-photon initial states are taken into account as well, but their impact is found to be moderate or small. Moreover, the known next-to-leading-order QCD corrections are reproduced. In order to separate hard photons from jets, both a quark-to-photon fragmentation function a la Glover/Morgan and Frixiones cone isolation are employed. The calculation is available in the form of Monte Carlo programs allowing for the evaluation of arbitrary differential cross sections. Predictions for integrated cross sections are presented for the LHC at 7 TeV, 8 TeV, and 14 TeV, and differential distributions are discussed at 14 TeV for bare muons and dressed leptons. Finally, we consider the impact of anomalous $ZZgamma$ and $Zgammagamma$ couplings.
