In this paper, we develop a partner selection protocol for enhancing the network lifetime in cooperative wireless networks. The case-study is the cooperative relayed transmission from fixed indoor nodes to a common outdoor access point. A stochastic bivariate model for the spatial distribution of the fading parameters that govern the link performance, namely the Rician K-factor and the path-loss, is proposed and validated by means of real channel measurements. The partner selection protocol is based on the real-time estimation of a function of these fading parameters, i.e., the coding gain. To reduce the complexity of the link quality assessment, a Bayesian approach is proposed that uses the site-specific bivariate model as a-priori information for the coding gain estimation. This link quality estimator allows network lifetime gains almost as if all K-factor values were known. Furthermore, it suits IEEE 802.15.4 compliant networks as it efficiently exploits the information acquired from the receiver signal strength indicator. Extensive numerical results highlight the trade-off between complexity, robustness to model mismatches and network lifetime performance. We show for instance that infrequent updates of the site-specific model through K-factor estimation over a subset of links are sufficient to at least double the network lifetime with respect to existing algorithms based on path loss information only.
Partner selection is an important process in many social interactions, permitting individuals to decrease the risks associated with cooperation. In large populations, defectors may escape punishment by roving from partner to partner, but defectors in smaller populations risk social isolation. We investigate these possibilities for an evolutionary prisoners dilemma in which agents use expected payoffs to choose and refuse partners. In comparison to random or round-robin partner matching, we find that the average payoffs attained with preferential partner selection tend to be more narrowly confined to a few isolated payoff regions. Most ecologies evolve to essentially full cooperative behavior, but when agents are intolerant of defections, or when the costs of refusal and social isolation are small, we also see the emergence of wallflower ecologies in which all agents are socially isolated. In between these two extremes, we see the emergence of ecologies whose agents tend to engage in a small number of defections followed by cooperation thereafter. The latter ecologies exhibit a plethora of interesting social interaction patterns. With the rising demand for indoor localization, high precision technique-based fingerprints became increasingly important nowadays. The newest advanced localization system makes effort to improve localization accuracy in the time or frequency domain, for example, the UWB localization technique can achieve centimeter-level accuracy but have a high cost. Therefore, we present a spatial domain extension-based scheme with low cost and verify the effectiveness of antennas extension in localization accuracy. In this paper, we achieve sub-meter level localization accuracy using a single AP by extending three radio links of the modified laptops to more antennas. Moreover, the experimental results show that the localization performance is superior as the number of antennas increases with the help of spatial domain extension and angular domain assisted.
In a radio network with single source-destination pair and some relays, a link between any two nodes is considered to have same or zero path loss. However in practice some links may have considerably high path loss than others but still being useful. In this report, we take into account signals received from these links also. indent Our system model consists of a source-destination pair with two layers of relays in which weaker links between source and second layer and between the first layer and destination are also considered. We propose some protocols in this system model, run simulations under optimum power allocation, and compare these protocols. We show that under reasonable channel strength of these weaker links, the proposed protocols perform ($ approx 2$ dB) better than the existing basic protocol. As expected, the degree of improvement increases with the strength of the weaker links. We also show that with the receive channel knowledge in relays, the reliability and data rate are improved.
Persona can function as the prior knowledge for maintaining the consistency of dialogue systems. Most of previous studies adopted the self persona in dialogue whose response was about to be selected from a set of candidates or directly generated, but few have noticed the role of partner in dialogue. This paper makes an attempt to thoroughly explore the impact of utilizing personas that describe either self or partner speakers on the task of response selection in retrieval-based chatbots. Four persona fusion strategies are designed, which assume personas interact with contexts or responses in different ways. These strategies are implemented into three representative models for response selection, which are based on the Hierarchical Recurrent Encoder (HRE), Interactive Matching Network (IMN) and Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) respectively. Empirical studies on the Persona-Chat dataset show that the partner personas neglected in previous studies can improve the accuracy of response selection in the IMN- and BERT-based models. Besides, our BERT-based model implemented with the context-response-aware persona fusion strategy outperforms previous methods by margins larger than 2.7% on original personas and 4.6% on revised personas in terms of hits@1 (top-1 accuracy), achieving a new state-of-the-art performance on the Persona-Chat dataset.
In this paper, we provide detailed analysis of the achievable throughput of infrastructure-based vehicular network with a finite traffic density under a cooperative communication strategy, which explores combined use of vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, mobility of vehicles and cooperations among vehicles and infrastructure to facilitate the data transmission. A closed form expression of the achievable throughput is obtained, which reveals the relationship between the achievable throughput and its major performance-impacting parameters such as distance between adjacent infrastructure points, radio ranges of infrastructure and vehicles, transmission rates of V2I and V2V communications and vehicular density. Numerical and simulation results show that the proposed cooperative communication strategy significantly increases the throughput of vehicular networks, compared with its non-cooperative counterpart, even when the traffic density is low. Our results shed insight on the optimum deployment of vehicular network infrastructure and optimum design of cooperative communication strategies in vehicular networks to maximize the throughput.
