The dijet double-differential cross section is measured as a function of the dijet invariant mass, using data taken during 2010 and during 2011 with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The measurements are sensitive to invariant masses between 70 GeV and 4.27 TeV with center-of-mass jet rapidities up to 3.5. A novel technique to correct jets for pile-up (additional proton-proton collisions) in the 2011 data is developed and subsequently used in the measurement. The data are found to be consistent with fixed-order NLO pQCD predictions provided by NLOJET++. The results constitute a stringent test of pQCD, in an energy regime previously unexplored. The dijet analysis is a confidence building step for the extraction of the signal of hard double parton scattering (DPS) in four-jet events, and subsequent extraction of the effective overlap area between the interacting protons, expressed in terms of the variable, sigma(eff). The measurement of DPS is performed using the 2010 ATLAS data. The rate of DPS events is estimated using a neural network. A clear signal is observed, under the assumption that the DPS signal can be represented by a random combination of exclusive dijet production. The fraction of DPS candidate events is determined to be f(DPS) = 0.081 +- 0.004 (stat.) +0.025-0.014 (syst.) in the analyzed phase-space of four-jet topologies. Combined with the measurement of the dijet and four-jet cross sections in the appropriate phase-space regions, the effective cross section is found to be sigma(eff) = 16.0 +0.5-0.8 (stat.) +1.9-3.5 (syst.) mb. This result is consistent within the quoted uncertainties with previous measurements of sigma(eff) at center-of-mass energies between 63 GeV and 7 TeV, using several final states.
This article summarizes the first measurements of inclusive beauty production cross section in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV and central rapidities. The results are based on different techniques, such as the identification of semileptonic b-decays into muons and inclusive jet measurements with secondary vertex tagging. The measurements probe b-quark production in different regions of transverse momenta. The experimental results are compared with next-to-leading order QCD predictions and various Monte Carlo models.
Proton-proton elastic scattering has been measured by the TOTEM experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at {surd}s = 7 TeV in dedicated runs with the Roman Pot detectors placed as close as seven times the transverse beam size (sbeam) from the outgoing beams. After careful study of the accelerator optics and the detector alignment, |t|, the square of four-momentum transferred in the elastic scattering process, has been determined with an uncertainty of d t = 0.1GeV p|t|. In this letter, first results of the differential cross section are presented covering a |t|-range from 0.36 to 2.5GeV2. The differential cross-section in the range 0.36 < |t| < 0.47 GeV2 is described by an exponential with a slope parameter B = (23.6{pm}0.5stat {pm}0.4syst)GeV-2, followed by a significant diffractive minimum at |t| = (0.53{pm}0.01stat{pm}0.01syst)GeV2. For |t|-values larger than ~ 1.5GeV2, the cross-section exhibits a power law behaviour with an exponent of -7.8_pm} 0.3stat{pm}0.1syst. When compared to predictions based on the different available models, the data show a strong discriminative power despite the small t-range covered.

We analyse the charged${text -}$particle multiplicity distributions measured by the ALICE experiment, over a wide pseudorapidity range, for $pp$ collisions at $sqrt{s}$=8,,7,and, 2.76~TeV at the LHC.~The analysis offers an understanding of particle production in high energy collisions in the purview of a new distribution, the shifted Gompertz distribution.~Data are compared with the distribution and moments of the distributions are calculated.~A modified version of the distribution is also proposed and used to improve the description of the data consisting of two different event classes; the inelastic and the non${text -}$single${text -}$diffractive and their subsets in different windows of pseudorapidity, $eta$.~The distribution used to analyse the data has a wide range of applicability to processes in different fields and complements the analysis done by the ALICE collaboration in terms of various LHC event generators and IP-Glasma calculations.

Charged particle multiplicities in proton-proton collisions measured in the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of $sqrt s$=7 TeV in different windows of pseudorapidity $eta$, in the forward region of the vertex detector are studied by using different statistical distributions. Three distributions are compared with the data and the moments of the distributions are calculated. The data constituting two sets, one of minimum bias events and another of hard QCD events are analysed. The distributions considered derive from different functional forms based on underlying interaction dynamics. The analysis complements the multiplicity analysis done by LHCb in terms of Monte Carlo event generators. The present analysis is from a different perspective, using statistical distributions.
