We demonstrate a nanostructure composed of partially etched annular trenches in a suspended GaAs membrane, designed for efficient and moderately broadband (approx. 5 nm) emission extraction from single InAs quantum dots. Simulations indicate that a dipole embedded in the nanostructure center radiates upwards into free space with a nearly Gaussian far-field, allowing a collection efficiency > 80 % with a high numerical aperture (NA=0.7) optic, and with 12X Purcell radiative rate enhancement. Fabricated devices exhibit an approx. 10 % photon collection efficiency with a NA=0.42 objective, a 20X improvement over quantum dots in unpatterned GaAs. A fourfold exciton lifetime reduction indicates moderate Purcell enhancement.

The combination of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) with photonic cavities is a promising way to realize non-classical light sources with state-of-the-art performances in terms of brightness, indistinguishability and repetition rate. In the present work we demonstrate the coupling of an InGaAs/GaAs QDs emitting in the telecom O-band to a circular Bragg grating cavity. We demonstrate a broadband geometric extraction efficiency enhancement by investigating two emission lines under above-band excitation, inside and detuned from the cavity mode, respectively. In the first case, a Purcell enhancement of 4 is attained. For the latter case, an end-to-end brightness of 1.4% with a brightness at the first lens of 23% is achieved. Using p-shell pumping, a combination of high count rate with pure single-photon emission (g(2)(0) = 0.01 in saturation) is achieved. Finally a good single-photon purity (g(2)(0) = 0.13) together with a high detector count rate of 191kcps is demonstrated for a temperature of up to 77K.
We demonstrate a spectrally broadband and effcient technique for collecting photoluminescence from a single InAs quantum dot directly into a standard single mode optical fiber. In this approach, an optical fiber taper waveguide is placed in contact with a suspended GaAs nanophotonic waveguide with embedded quantum dots, forming an effcient and broadband directional coupler with standard optical fiber input and output. Effcient photoluminescence collection over a wavelength range of tens of nanometers is demonstrated, and a maximum collection effciency of 6.05 % (corresponding single photon rate of 3.0 MHz) into a single mode optical fiber was estimated for a single quantum dot exciton.

Coupling emitters with nanoresonators is an effective strategy to control light emission at the subwavelength scale with high efficiency. Low-loss dielectric nanoantennas hold particular promise for this purpose, owing to their strong Mie resonances. Herein, we explore a highly miniaturized platform for the control of emission based on individual subwavelength Si nanospheres (SiNSs) to modulate the directional excitation and exciton emission of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDs). A modified Mie theory for dipole-sphere hybrid systems is derived to instruct the optimal design for desirable modulation performance. Controllable forward-to-backward intensity ratios are experimentally validated in 532 nm laser excitation and 635 nm exciton emission from a monolayer WS2. Versatile light emission control along all device orientations is achieved for different emitters and excitation wavelengths, benefiting from the facile size control and isotropic shape of SiNSs. Simultaneous modulation of excitation and emission via a single SiNS at visible wavelengths significantly improves the efficiency and directivity of TMD exciton emission and leads to the potential of multifunctional integrated photonics. Overall, our work opens promising opportunities for nanophotonics and polaritonic systems, enabling efficient manipulation, enhancement and reconfigurability of light-matter interactions.

We report photon correlation measurements that allow us to observe unique signatures of biexcitons in a single self-assembled InAs quantum dot. Photon correlation measurements of biexciton emission exhibit both bunching and antibunching under continuous-wave excitation while only antibunching is observed under pulsed excitation. Cross-correlation between biexciton and single-exciton peaks reveal highly asymmetric features, demonstrating that biexciton and exciton emissions have strong correlations due to cascaded emission. The anticipated correlation between the polarization of exciton and biexciton emissions however, is absent under our excitation conditions. Photon correlation measurements also provide evidence for the identification of the charged exciton emission.
Single photon sources with high brightness and subnanosecond lifetimes are key components for quantum technologies. Optical nanoantennas can enhance the emission properties of single quantum emitters, but this approach requires accurate nanoscale positioning of the source at the plasmonic hotspot. Here, we use plasmonic nanoantennas to simultaneously trap single colloidal quantum dots and enhance their photoluminescence. The nano-optical trapping automatically locates the quantum emitter at the nanoantenna hotspot without further processing. Our dedicated nanoantenna design achieves a high trap stiffness of 0.6 fN/nm/mW for quantum dot trapping, together with a relatively low trapping power of 2 mW/$mu$m$^2$. The emission from the nanoantenna-trapped single quantum dot shows 7x increased brightness, 50x reduced blinking, 2x shortened lifetime and a clear antibunching below 0.5 demonstrating true single photon emission. Combining nano-optical tweezers with plasmonic enhancement is a promising route for quantum technologies and spectroscopy of single nano-objects.
