Motivated by the possibility that the amplitude for neutrinoless double beta decay may be much smaller than the planned sensitivity of future experiments, we study ansatze for the neutrino mass matrix with $M_{ee} = 0$. For the case in which CP is conserved, we consider two classes of real-valued mass matrices: Class I defined by $|M_{emu}| = |M_{etau}|$, and Class II defined by $|M_{mumu}| = |M_{tautau}|$. The important phenomenological distinction between the two is that Class I permits only small values of $V_{e3}$ up to $sim 0.03$, while Class II admits large values of $V_{e3}$ up to its empirical upper limit of 0.22. Then we introduce CP-violating complex phases into the mass matrix. We show that it is possible to have tribimaximal mixing with $M_{ee} = 0$ and $|M_{mutau}| = |M_{mumu}| = |M_{tautau}|$ if the Majorana phase angles are $pmpi/4$. Alternatively, for smaller values of $|M_{mutau}| = |M_{mumu}| = |M_{tautau}|$ it is possible to obtain $|V_{e3}| sim 0.2$ and generate relatively large CP-violating amplitudes. To eliminate phase redundancy, we emphasize rephasing any mass matrix with $M_{ee} = 0$ into a standard form with two complex phases. The discussion alternates between analytical and numerical but remains purely phenomenological, without any attempt to derive mass matrices from a fundamental theory.

In this work we have re-investigated two different kinds of texture zero ansatz of the low energy neutrino mass matrix in view of the Dark-Large-Mixing-Angle (DLMA) solution of the solar neutrino problem which can arise in the presence of non-standard interactions. In particular we revisit the cases of (i) one zero mass matrices when the lowest neutrino mass is zero and (ii) one zero texture with a vanishing minor. In our study we find that for most of the cases, the texture zero conditions which are allowed for the LMA solution, are also allowed for the DLMA solution. However, we found two textures belonging to the case of one zero texture with a vanishing minor where LMA solution does not give a viable solution whereas DLMA solution does. We analyze all the possible texture zero cases belonging to these two kinds of texture zero structures in detail and present correlations between different parameters. We also present the predictions for the effective neutrino mass governing neutrino-less double beta decay for the allowed textures.
We discuss the Dirac CP violating phase $delta_{CP}$ in the Froggatt-Nielsen model for a neutrino mass matrix $M_ u$ imposing a condition ${rm det} [M_ u]=0$. This additional condition restricts the CP violating phase $delta_{CP}$ drastically. We find that the phase $delta_{CP}$ is predicted in the region of $pm (0.4- 2.9)$ radian, which is consistent with the recent T2K and NO$ u$A data. There is a remarkable correlation between $delta_{CP}$ and $sin^2theta_{23}$. The phase $delta_{CP}$ converges on $sim pm pi/2$ if $sin^2theta_{23}$ is larger than $0.5$. Thus, accurate measurements of $sin^2theta_{23}$ are important for a test of our model. The effective mass $m_{ee}$ for the neutrinoless double beta decay is predicted in the rage of $3.3-4.0$ meV.

The interference of charge-changing interactions, weaker than the V-A Standard Model (SM) interaction and having a different Lorentz structure, with that SM interaction, can, in principle, produce effects near the end point of the Tritium beta decay spectrum which are of a different character from those produced by the purely kinematic effect of neutrino mass expected in the simplest extension of the SM. We show that the existence of more than one mass eigenstate can lead to interference effects at the end point that are stronger than those occurring over the entire spectrum. We discuss these effects both for the special case of Dirac neutrinos and the more general case of Majorana neutrinos and show that, for the present precision of the experiments, one formula should suffice to express the interference effects in all cases. Implications for sterile neutrinos are noted.
The recent T2K, MINOS and Double Chooz oscillation data hint a relatively large $theta_{13}$, which can be accommodated by some general modification of the Tribimaximal/Bimaximal/Democratic mixing matrices. Using such matrices we analyze several Majorana mass matrices with texture one-zero and show whether they satisfy normal or inverted mass hierarchy and phenomenologically viable or not.
We propose a model that all quark and lepton mass matrices have the same zero texture. Namely their (1,1), (1,3) and (3,1) components are zeros. The mass matrices are classified into two types I and II. Type I is consistent with the experimental data in quark sector. For lepton sector, if seesaw mechanism is not used, Type II allows a large $ u_mu - u_tau$ mixing angle. However, severe compatibility with all neutrino oscillation experiments forces us to use the seesaw mechanism. If we adopt the seesaw mechanism, it turns out that Type I instead of II can be consistent with experimental data in the lepton sector too.
