Entanglement criteria for general (pure or mixed) states of systems consisting of two identical fermions are introduced. These criteria are based on appropriate inequalities involving the entropy of the global density matrix describing the total system, on the one hand, and the entropy of the one particle reduced density matrix, on the other one. A majorization-related relation between these two density matrices is obtained, leading to a family of entanglement criteria based on Renyis entropic measure. These criteria are applied to various illustrative examples of parametrized families of mixed states. The dependence of the entanglement detection efficiency on Renyis entropic parameter is investigated. The extension of these criteria to systems of $N$ identical fermions is also considered.

We derive several entanglement criteria for bipartite continuous variable quantum systems based on the Shannon entropy. These criteria are more sensitive than those involving only second-order moments, and are equivalent to well-known variance product tests in the case of Gaussian states. Furthermore, they involve only a pair of quadrature measurements, and will thus should prove extremely useful the experimental identification of entanglement.
We derive inseparability criteria for the phase space representation of quantum states in terms of variants of Wehrls entropy. In contrast to entropic criteria involving differential entropies of marginal phase space distributions, our criteria are based on the Husimi Q-distribution. This is experimentally accessible through the heterodyne detection scheme, avoiding costly tomographic measurements. We apply our entropic criteria to Gaussian states and show that they imply a pair of second-order criteria for moments. We exemplify the strengths of our entropic approach by considering several classes of non-Gaussian states where second-order criteria fail. We show that our criteria certify entanglement in previously undetectable regions highlighting the strength of using the Husimi Q-distribution for entanglement detection.

We discuss the relation between fermion entanglement and bipartite entanglement. We first show that an exact correspondence between them arises when the states are constrained to have a definite local number parity. Moreover, for arbitrary states in a four dimensional single-particle Hilbert space, the fermion entanglement is shown to measure the entanglement between two distinguishable qubits defined by a suitable partition of this space. Such entanglement can be used as a resource for tasks like quantum teleportation. On the other hand, this fermionic entanglement provides a lower bound to the entanglement of an arbitrary bipartition although in this case the local states involved will generally have different number parities. Finally the fermionic implementation of the teleportation and superdense coding protocols based on qubits with odd and even number parity is discussed, together with the role of the previous types of entanglement.
We introduce a general bipartite-like representation and Schmidt decomposition of an arbitrary pure state of $N$ indistinguishable fermions, based on states of $M<N$ and $(N-M)$ fermions. It is directly connected with the reduced $M$- and $(N-M)$-body density matrices (DMs), which have the same spectrum in such states. The concept of $M$-body entanglement emerges naturally in this scenario, generalizing that of one-body entanglement. Rigorous majorization relations satisfied by the normalized $M$-body DM are then derived, which imply that the associated entropy will not increase, on average, under a class of operations which have these DMs as post-measurement states. Moreover, such entropy is an upper bound to the average bipartite entanglement entropy generated by a class of operations which map the original state to a bipartite state of $M$ and $N-M$ effectively distinguishable fermions. Analytic evaluation of the spectrum of $M$-body DMs in some strongly correlated fermionic states is also provided.
The analysis of the entanglement entropy of a subsystem of a one-dimensional quantum system is a powerful tool for unravelling its critical nature. For instance, the scaling behaviour of the entanglement entropy determines the central charge of the associated Virasoro algebra. For a free fermion system, the entanglement entropy depends essentially on two sets, namely the set $A$ of sites of the subsystem considered and the set $K$ of excited momentum modes. In this work we make use of a general duality principle establishing the invariance of the entanglement entropy under exchange of the sets $A$ and $K$ to tackle complex problems by studying their dual counterparts. The duality principle is also a key ingredient in the formulation of a novel conjecture for the asymptotic behavior of the entanglement entropy of a free fermion system in the general case in which both sets $A$ and $K$ consist of an arbitrary number of blocks. We have verified that this conjecture reproduces the numerical results with excellent precision for all the configurations analyzed. We have also applied the conjecture to deduce several asymptotic formulas for the mutual and $r$-partite information generalizing the known ones for the single block case.
