The resonance parameters of the excited psi-family resonances, namely the psi(4040), psi(4160), and psi(4415), were determined by fitting the R-values measured by experiments. It is found that the previously reported leptonic partial widths of these states were merely one possible solutions among a four-fold ambiguity. By fitting the most precise experimental data on the R-values measured by the BES collaboration, this work presents all four sets of solutions. These results may affect the interpretation of the charmonium and charmonium-like states above 4GeV/c^2.
The ratio of the electron and muon widths of the $J/psi$ meson has been measured using direct $J/psi$ decays in the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron-positron collider. The result $Gamma_{ee}(J/psi)/Gamma_{mumu}(J/psi)=1.0022pm0.0044pm0.0048 (0.65%)$ is in good agreement with the lepton universality. The experience collected during this analysis will be used for a $J/psi$ lepton width determination with up to 1% accuracy.
$^{209}$Bi alpha decay to the ground and to the first excited state have been contemporary observed for the first time with a large BGO scintillating bolometer. The half-life of $^{209}$Bi is determined to be $tau_{1/2}$=(2.01$pm$0.08)$cdot10^{19}$ years while the branching ratio for the ground-state to ground-state transition is (98.8$pm$0.3)%.
We report a new precise determination of the leptonic widths of the J/psi meson performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The measured values of the J/psi parameters are: Gamma_{ee}timesGamma_{ee}/Gamma = 0.3323 pm 0.0064 (stat.) pm 0.0048 (syst.) keV Gamma_{ee}timesGamma_{mumu}/Gamma=0.3318 pm 0.0052 (stat.) pm 0.0063 (syst.) keV. Assuming $emu$ universality and using the table value of the branching ratios the leptonic Gamma_{ll}= 5.59 pm 0.12 keV width and the total Gamma=94.1 pm 2.7 keV widths were obtained. We also discuss in detail a method to calculate radiative corrections at a narrow resonance.
We present new precision measurements of the psi(2S) total and partial widths from excitation curves obtained in antiproton-proton annihilations by Fermilab experiment E835 at the Antiproton Accumulator in the year 2000. A new technique of complementary scans was developed to study narrow resonances with stochastically cooled antiproton beams. The technique relies on precise revolution-frequency and orbit-length measurements, while making the analysis of the excitation curve almost independent of machine lattice parameters. We study the psi(2S) meson through the processes pbar p -> e+ e- and pbar p -> J/psi + X -> e+ e- + X. We measure the width to be Gamma = 290 +- 25(sta) +- 4(sys) keV and the combination of partial widths Gamma_e+e- * Gamma_pbarp / Gamma = 579 +- 38(sta) +- 36(sys) meV, which represent the most precise measurements to date.
