We describe a method for determining the radiative decay properties of a molecule by studying the saturation of laser-induced fluorescence and the associated power broadening of spectral lines. The fluorescence saturates because the molecules decay to states that are not resonant with the laser. The amplitudes and widths of two hyperfine components of a spectral line are measured over a range of laser intensities and the results compared to a model of the laser-molecule interaction. Using this method we measure the lifetime of the A(v=0) state of CaF to be tau=19.2 pm 0.7 ns, and the Franck-Condon factor for the transition to the X(v=0) state to be Z=0.987 (+0.013 || -0.019). In addition, our analysis provides a measure of the hyperfine interval in the lowest-lying state of A(v=0), Delta_e=4.8 pm 1.1 MHz.

We present a combined experimental and theoretical study on the radiative lifetime of CO in the $a^3Pi_{1,2}, v=0$ state. CO molecules in a beam are prepared in selected rotational levels of this metastable state, Stark-decelerated and electrostatically trapped. From the phosphorescence decay in the trap, the radiative lifetime is measured to be $2.63pm0.03$ ms for the $a^3Pi_1, v=0, J=1$ level. From spin-orbit coupling between the $a^3Pi$ and the $A^1Pi$ state a 20% longer radiative lifetime of 3.16 ms is calculated for this level. It is concluded that coupling to other $^1Pi$ states contributes to the observed phosphorescence rate of metastable CO.

In this letter, we discuss the possibility of non 0-0 atomic lines as the reference transitions to design a new atomic clock. The proposed clock operates in high C-field regime offering an interesting alternative to conventional clock based on 0-0 transition as the former can also eliminate the influence of the first-order Zeeman effect. Using the Breit-Rabi formula, we theoretically calculate the magnetically insensitive frequency and the corresponding C-field value for different alkali atom species. We also provide an estimate of the uncertainty of frequency shift to change of C-field. We show that a high C-field clock based on Cs: 3,-1 - 4,0, 3,0 - 4,-1, and 3,-1 - 4,-1, can achieve a bias of 10-14 with a C-field of 10-6 uncertainty. The free first-order Zeeman effect C-field for 3,-1 - 4,0 or 3,0 - 4,-1 transition is about one half that for 3,-1 - 4,-1 transition.
We present a method of transferring a cold atom between spatially separated microtraps by means of a Raman transition between the ground motional states of the two traps. The intermediate states for the Raman transition are the vibrational levels of a third microtrap, and we determine the experimental conditions for which the overlap of the wave functions leads to an efficient transfer. There is a close analogy with the Franck-Condon principle in the spectroscopy of molecules. Spin-dependent manipulation of neutral atoms in microtraps has important applications in quantum information processing. We also show that starting with several atoms, precisely one atom can be transferred to the final potential well hence giving deterministic preparation of single atoms.
The FOCUS experiment(FNAL-E831) has used two channels, $Omega^- pi^+$ and $Xi^-K^- pi^+ pi^+$,to measure the lifetime of the $Omega_c^0$ charmed baryon. From a sample of $64 pm 14$ signal events at a mass of 2.698 GeV/$c^2$, we measure an $Omega_c^0$ lifetime of $72 pm 11$ (stat.) $pm 11$ (sys.) fs, substantially improving upon the current world average.
This paper reports the first measurement of the effective B_s^0 -> J/{psi} K_S^0 lifetime and an updated measurement of its time-integrated branching fraction. Both measurements are performed with a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb^{-1} of pp collisions, recorded by the LHCb experiment in 2011 at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The results are: tau_J/{psi}K_S^0 = 1.75 +/- 0.12 (stat) +/- 0.07 (syst) and BR(B_s^0 -> J/{psi} K_S^0) = (1.97 +/- 0.23) X 10^{-5}. For the latter measurement, the uncertainty includes both statistical and systematic sources.
