High resolution photoemission measurements have been carried out on non-superconducting LaOFeAs parent compound and various superconducting R(O1-xFx)FeAs (R=La, Ce and Pr) compounds. We found that the parent LaOFeAs compound shows a metallic character. Through extensive measurements, we have identified several common features in the electronic structure of these Fe-based compounds: (1). 0.2 eV feature in the valence band; (2). A universal 13~16 meV feature; (3). A clear Fermi cutoff showing zero leading-edge shift in the superconducting state;(4). Lack of superconducting coherence peak(s); (5). Near EF spectral weight suppression with decreasing temperature. These universal features can provide important information about band structure, superconducting gap and pseudogap in these Fe-based materials.

In this article we review our angle- and time-resolved photoemission studies (ARPES and trARPES) on various ferropnictides.
We have investigated the low-energy electronic structure of the heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn5 by angle-resolved photoemission. We focus on the dispersion and the peak width of the prominent quasi-two-dimensional Fermi surface sheet at the corner of the Brillouin zone as a function of temperature along certain k-directions with a photon energy of hn = 100 eV. We find slight changes of the Fermi vector and an anomalous broadening of the peak width when the Fermi energy is approached. Additionally we performed resonant ARPES experiments with hn = 121 eV. A flat f-derived band is observed with a distinct temperature dependence and a k-dependent spectral weight. These results, including both off- and on-resonant measurements, fit qualitatively to a two level mixing model derived from the Periodic Anderson Model.
We have investigated the low-energy electronic structure of the heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn5 by angle-resolved photoemission and band structure calculations. We measured the Fermi surface and energy distribution maps along the high-symmetry directions at hn = 100 eV and T = 25 K. The compound has quasi two-dimensional Fermi surface sheets centered at the M-A line of the Brillouin zone. The band structure calculations have been carried out within the local density approximation where the 4f electrons have been treated either localized or itinerant. We discuss the comparison to the experimental data and the implications for the nature of the 4f electrons at the given temperature.
Direct quantitative correlations between the orbital order and orthorhombicity is achieved in a number of Fe-based superconductors of 122 family. The former (orbital order) is calculated from first principles simulations using experimentally determined doping and temperature dependent structural parameters while the latter (the orthorhombicity) is taken from already established experimental studies; when normalized, both the above quantities quantitatively corresponds to each other in terms of their doping as well as temperature variations. This proves that the structural transition in Fe-based materials is electronic in nature due to orbital ordering. An universal correlations among various structural parameters and electronic structure are also obtained. Most remarkable among them is the mapping of two Fe--Fe distances in the low temperature orthorhombic phase, with the band energies E$_{d_{xz}}$, E$_{d_{yz}}$ of Fe at the high symmetry points of the Brillouin zone. The fractional co-ordinate $z_{As}$ of $As$ which essentially determines anion height is inversely (directly) proportional to Fe-As bond distances (with exceptions of K doped BaFe$_2$As$_2$) for hole (electron) doped materials as a function of doping. On the other hand, Fe-As bond-distance is found to be inversely (directly) proportional to the density of states at the Fermi level for hole (electron) doped systems. Implications of these results to current issues of Fe based superconductivity are discussed.
We present self-consistent calculations of the multi-gap structure measured in some Fe-based superconductors. These materials are known to have structural disorder in real space and a multi-gap structure due to the $3d$ Fe-orbitals contributing to a complex Fermi surface topology with hole and electron pockets. Different experiments identify three s-wave like superconducting gaps with a single critical temperature ($T_c$). We investigate the temperature dependence of these gaps by a multi-band Bogoliubov-deGennes theory at different pockets in the presence of effective hybridizations between some bands and an attractive temperature dependent intra-band interaction. We show that this approach reproduces the three observed gaps and single $T_c$ in different compounds of Ba$_{1-x}$K$_{x}$Fe$_2$As$_2$, providing some insights on the inter-band interactions.
