Effects of a periodic driving field on Landau-Zener processes are studied using a nonlinear two-mode model that describes the mean-field dynamics of a many-body system. A variety of different dynamical phenomena in different parameter regimes of the driving field are discussed and analyzed. These include shifted, weakened, or enhanced phase dependence of nonlinear Landau-Zener processes, nonlinearity-enhanced population transfer in the adiabatic limit, and Hamiltonian chaos on the mean field level. The emphasis of this work is placed on how the impact of a periodic driving field on Landau-Zener processes with self-interaction differs from those without self-interaction. Aside from gaining understandings of driven nonlinear Landau-Zener processes, our findings can be used to gauge the strength of nonlinearity and for efficient manipulation of the mean-field dynamics of many-body systems.

We report time-resolved measurements of Landau-Zener tunneling of Bose-Einstein condensates in accelerated optical lattices, clearly resolving the step-like time dependence of the band populations. Using different experimental protocols we were able to measure the tunneling probability both in the adiabatic and in the diabatic bases of the system. We also experimentally determine the contribution of the momentum width of the Bose condensates to the width of the tunneling steps and discuss the implications for measuring the jump time in the Landau-Zener problem.

We consider a system of two coupled ordinary differential equations which appears as an envelope equation in Bose-Einstein Condensation. This system can be viewed as a nonlinear extension of the celebrated model introduced by Landau and Zener. We show how the nonlinear system may appear from different physical models. We focus our attention on the large time behavior of the solution. We show the existence of a nonlinear scattering operator, which is reminiscent of long range scattering for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation, and which can be compared with its linear counterpart.
We study Landau-Zener like dynamics of a qubit influenced by transverse random telegraph noise. The telegraph noise is characterized by its coupling strength, $v$ and switching rate, $gamma$. The qubit energy levels are driven nonlinearly in time, $propto sign(t)|t|^ u$, and we derive the transition probability in the limit of sufficiently fast noise, for arbitrary exponent $ u$. The longitudinal coherence after transition depends strongly on $ u$, and there exists a critical $ u_c$ with qualitative difference between $ u< u_c$ and $ u > u_c$. When $ u< u_c$ the end state is always fully incoherent with equal population of both quantum levels, even for arbitrarily weak noise. For $ u> u_c$ the system keeps some coherence depending on the strength of the noise, and in the limit of weak noise no transition takes place. For fast noise $ u_c=1/2$, while for slow noise $ u_c<1/2$ and it depends on $gamma$. We also discuss transverse coherence, which is relevant when the qubit has a nonzero minimum energy gap. The qualitative dependency on $ u$ is the same for transverse as for longitudinal coherence. The state after transition does in general depend on $gamma$. For fixed $v$, increasing $gamma$ decreases the final state coherence when $ u<1$ and increase the final state coherence when $ u>1$. Only the conventional linear driving is independent of $gamma$.
We have investigated tunneling current through a suspended graphene Corbino disk in high magnetic fields at the Dirac point, i.e. at filling factor $ u$ = 0. At the onset of the dielectric breakdown the current through the disk grows exponentially before ohmic behaviour, but in a manner distinct from thermal activation. We find that Zener tunneling between Landau sublevels dominates, facilitated by tilting of the source-drain bias potential. According to our analytic modelling, the Zener tunneling is strongly affected by the gyrotropic force (Lorentz force) due to the high magnetic field

We study Landau-Zener transitions in a fermionic dissipative environment where a two-level (up and down states) system is coupled to two metallic leads kept with different chemical potentials at zero temperature. The dynamics of the system is simulated by an iterative numerically exact influence functional path integral method. In the pure Landau-Zener problem, two kinds of transition (from up to down state and from down to up state) probability are symmetric. However, this symmetry is destroyed by coupling the system to the bath. In addition, in both kinds of transitions, there exists a nonmonotonic dependence of the transition probability on the sweep velocity; meanwhile nonmonotonic dependence of the transition probability on the system-bath coupling strength is only shown in one of them. As in the spin-boson model, these phenomena can be explained by a simple phenomenological model.
