We study a system of pseudodifferential equations that is elliptic in the sense of Petrovskii on a closed compact smooth manifold. We prove that the operator generated by the system is Fredholm one on a refined two-sided scale of the functional Hilbert spaces. Elements of this scale are the special isotropic spaces of H{o}rmander--Volevich--Paneah.

Consider an elliptic self-adjoint pseudodifferential operator $A$ acting on $m$-columns of half-densities on a closed manifold $M$, whose principal symbol is assumed to have simple eigenvalues. Relying on a basis of pseudodifferential projections commuting with $A$, we construct an almost-unitary pseudodifferential operator that diagonalizes $A$ modulo an infinitely smoothing operator. We provide an invariant algorithm for the computation of its full symbol, as well as an explicit closed formula for its subprincipal symbol. Finally, we give a quantitative description of the relation between the spectrum of $A$ and the spectrum of its approximate diagonalization, and discuss the implications at the level of spectral asymptotics.
Consider an elliptic self-adjoint pseudodifferential operator $A$ acting on $m$-columns of half-densities on a closed manifold $M$, whose principal symbol is assumed to have simple eigenvalues. We show existence and uniqueness of $m$ orthonormal pseudodifferential projections commuting with the operator $A$ and provide an algorithm for the computation of their full symbols, as well as explicit closed formulae for their subprincipal symbols. Pseudodifferential projections yield a decomposition of $L^2(M)$ into invariant subspaces under the action of $A$ modulo $C^infty(M)$. Furthermore, they allow us to decompose $A$ into $m$ distinct sign definite pseudodifferential operators. Finally, we represent the modulus and the Heaviside function of the operator $A$ in terms of pseudodifferential projections and discuss physically meaningful examples.
A regular elliptic boundary-value problem over a bounded domain with a smooth boundary is studied. We prove that the operator of this problem is a Fredholm one in the two-sided refined scale of the functional Hilbert spaces and generates a complete collection of isomorphisms. Elements of this scale are the isotropic spaces of Hormander-Volevich-Paneah and some its modifications. A priori estimate for the solution is established and its regularity is investigated.

Spherical radial basis functions are used to define approximate solutions to strongly elliptic pseudodifferential equations on the unit sphere. These equations arise from geodesy. The approximate solutions are found by the Galerkin and collocation methods. A salient feature of the paper is a {em unified theory} for error analysis of both approximation methods.
A characterization of a semilinear elliptic partial differential equation (PDE) on a bounded domain in $mathbb{R}^n$ is given in terms of an infinite-dimensional dynamical system. The dynamical system is on the space of boundary data for the PDE. This is a novel approach to elliptic problems that enables the use of dynamical systems tools in studying the corresponding PDE. The dynamical system is ill-posed, meaning solutions do not exist forwards or backwards in time for generic initial data. We offer a framework in which this ill-posed system can be analyzed. This can be viewed as generalizing the theory of spatial dynamics, which applies to the case of an infinite cylindrical domain.
