We investigate the dissipative real-time evolution of the order parameter for the deconfining transition in the pure SU(2) gauge theory. The approach to equilibrium after a quench to temperatures well above the critical one is described by a Langevin equation. To fix completely the markovian Langevin dynamics we choose the dissipation coefficient, that is a function of the temperature, guided by preliminary Monte Carlo simulations for various temperatures. Assuming a relationship between Monte Carlo time and real time, we estimate the delay in thermalization brought about by dissipation and noise.

We determine the time evolution of fluctuations of the Polyakov loop after a quench into the deconfined phase of SU(3) gauge theory from a simple classical relativistic Lagrangian. We compare the structure factors, which indicate spinodal decomposition followed by relaxation, to those obtained via Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques in SU(3) lattice gauge theory. We find that the time when the structure factor peaks diverges like $sim 1/k^2$ in the long-wavelength limit. This is due to formation of competing Z(3) domains for configurations where the Polyakov loop exhibits non-perturbatively large variations in space, which delay thermalization of long wavelength modes. For realistic temperatures, and away from the extreme weak-coupling limit, we find that even modes with $k$ on the order of $T$ experience delayed thermalization. Relaxation times of very long wavelength modes are found to be on the order of the size of the system; thus, the dynamics of competing domains should accompany the hydrodynamic description of the deconfined vacuum.
The nature of the deconfining phase transition in the 2+1-dimensional SU(N) Georgi-Glashow model is investigated. Within the dimensional-reduction hypothesis, the properties of the transition are described by a two-dimensional vectorial Coulomb gas models of electric and magnetic charges. The resulting critical properties are governed by a generalized SU(N) sine-Gordon model with self-dual symmetry. We show that this model displays a massless flow to an infrared fixed point which corresponds to the Z$_N$ parafermions conformal field theory. This result, in turn, supports the conjecture of Kogan, Tekin, and Kovner that the deconfining transition in the 2+1-dimensional SU(N) Georgi-Glashow model belongs to the Z$_N$ universality class.
Instanton-dyons, also known as instanton-monopoles or instanton-quarks, are topological constituents of the instantons at nonzero temperature and holonomy. We perform numerical simulations of the ensemble of interacting dyons for the SU(2) pure gauge theory. Unlike previous studies, we focus on back reaction on the holonomy and the issue of confinement. We calculate the free energy as a function of the holonomy and the dyon densities, using standard Metropolis Monte Carlo and integration over parameter methods. We observe that as the temperature decreases and the dyon density grows, its minimum indeed moves from small holonomy to the value corresponding to confinement. We then report various parameters of the self-consistent ensembles as a function of temperature, and investigate the role of inter-particle correlations.
The next to leading order chiral corrections to the $SU(2)times SU(2)$ Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner (GMOR) relation are obtained using the pseudoscalar correlator to five-loop order in perturbative QCD, together with new finite energy sum rules (FESR) incorporating polynomial, Legendre type, integration kernels. The purpose of these kernels is to suppress hadronic contributions in the region where they are least known. This reduces considerably the systematic uncertainties arising from the lack of direct experimental information on the hadronic resonance spectral function. Three different methods are used to compute the FESR contour integral in the complex energy (squared) s-plane, i.e. Fixed Order Perturbation Theory, Contour Improved Perturbation Theory, and a fixed renormalization scale scheme. We obtain for the corrections to the GMOR relation, $delta_pi$, the value $delta_pi = (6.2, pm 1.6)%$. This result is substantially more accurate than previous determinations based on QCD sum rules; it is also more reliable as it is basically free of systematic uncertainties. It implies a light quark condensate $<0|bar{u} u|0> simeq <0|bar{d} d|0> equiv <0|bar{q} q|0>|_{2,mathrm{GeV}} = (- 267 pm 5 MeV)^3$. As a byproduct, the chiral perturbation theory (unphysical) low energy constant $H^r_2$ is predicted to be $H^r_2 ( u_chi = M_rho) = - (5.1 pm 1.8)times 10^{-3}$, or $H^r_2 ( u_chi = M_eta) = - (5.7 pm 2.0)times 10^{-3}$.

We discuss the effects of rotation on confining properties of gauge theories focusing on compact electrodynamics in two spatial dimensions as an analytically tractable model. We show that at finite temperature, the rotation leads to a deconfining transition starting from a certain distance from the rotation axis. A uniformly rotating confining system possesses, in addition to the usual confinement and deconfinement phases, a mixed inhomogeneous phase which hosts spatially separated confinement and deconfinement regions. The phase diagram thus has two different deconfining temperatures. The first deconfining temperature can be made arbitrarily low by sufficiently rapid rotation while the second deconfining temperature is largely unaffected by the rotation. Implications of our results for the phase diagram of QCD are presented. We point out that uniformly rotating quark-gluon plasma should therefore experience an inverse hadronization effect when the hadronization starts from the core of the rotating plasma rather than from its boundary.
