The formation of breakdown pattern on an insulating surface under the influence of a transverse magnetic field is theoretically investigated. We have generalized the Dielectric Breakdown Model (DBM) for the case of external magnetic field. Concept of the Magnetic Fractal Dimensionality (MFD) is introduced and its universality is demonstrated. It is shown that MFD saturates with magnetic fields. The magnetic field dependence of the streamer curvature is obtained. It is conjectured that nonlinear current interaction is responsible for the experimentally observed spider-legs like streamer patterns.

In this thesis is studied three of the fundamental properties of clusters of matter made of quarks u, d and s called strangelets: the energy per baryon, the radius and the electric charge, all in the presence of intense magnetic fields and finite temperature. Two cases will take our attention: unpaired phase strangelets, where there is no restriction to the number of flavors of quarks, and a particular case of the color superconducting phase, where exists a restriction to the quark numbers and an additional energy gap. We study the stability of strangelets, measured by the energy per baryon, to compare later with that of the 56Fe : the most stable isotope known in nature. We employ the Liquid Drop formalism of the Bag Model MIT to describe the interaction between quarks. We conclude that the field effects tend to decrease the energy per baryon of strangelets and temperature produces the opposite effect. It is also shown that strangelets in the color superconducting phase are more stable than those in the unpaired phase for an energy gap of about 100MeV. The radius of strangelets shows an analogous behavior with the baryon number, as that of the nuclei, and shows small variations with the magnetic field and temperature. It is obtained that the presence of magnetic fields modify the values of the electric charge regarding the non-magnetized case, being these higher (lower) for strangelets in the unpaired phase (superconducting).
We review the properties of quarkonia under strong magnetic fields. The main phenomena are (i) mixing between different spin eigenstates, (ii) quark Landau levels and deformation of wave function, (iii) modification of $bar{Q}Q$ potential, and (iv) the motional Stark effect. For theoretical approaches, we review (i) constituent quark models, (ii) effective Lagrangians, (iii) QCD sum rules, and (iv) holographic approaches.

The magnetic and dielectric properties under high magnetic fields are studied in the single crystal of Cu3Mo2O9. This multiferroic compound has distorted tetrahedral spin chains. The effects of the quasi-one dimensionality and the geometrical spin frustration are expected to appear simultaneously. We measure the magnetoelectric current and the differential magnetization under the pulsed magnetic field up to 74 T. We also measure the electric polarization versus the electric field curve/loop under the static field up to 23 T. Dielectric properties change at the magnetic fields where the magnetization jumps are observed in the magnetization curve. Moreover, the magnetization plateaus are found at high magnetic fields.
This paper reports an implementation of Hartree-Fock linear response with complex orbitals for computing electronic spectra of molecules in a strong external magnetic fields. The implementation is completely general, allowing for spin-restricted, spin-unrestricted, and general two-component reference states. The method is applied to small molecules placed in strong uniform and non-uniform magnetic fields of astrochemical importance at the Random Phase Approximation level of theory. For uniform fields, where comparison is possible, the spectra are found to be qualitatively similar to those recently obtained with equation of motion coupled cluster theory. We also study the behaviour of spin-forbidden excitations with progressive loss of spin symmetry induced by non-uniform magnetic fields. Finally, the equivalence of length and velocity gauges for oscillator strengths when using complex orbitals is investigated and found to hold numerically.
The head-on collision between electrostatic shocks is studied via multi-dimensional Particle-In-Cell simulations. It is found that the shock velocities drop significantly and a strong magnetic field is generated after the interaction. This transverse magnetic field is due to the Weibel instability caused by pressure anisotropies due to longitudinal electron heating while the shocks approach each other. Finally, it is shown that this phenomenon can be explored in the laboratory with current laser facilities within a significant parameter range.
