In this work, we propose an adaptive set-membership constant modulus (SM-CM) algorithm with a generalized sidelobe canceler (GSC) structure for blind beamforming. We develop a stochastic gradient (SG) type algorithm based on the concept of SM filtering for adaptive implementation. The filter weights are updated only if the constraint cannot be satisfied. In addition, we also propose an extension of two schemes of time-varying bounds for beamforming with a GSC structure and incorporate parameter and interference dependence to characterize the environment which improves the tracking performance of the proposed algorithm in dynamic scenarios. A convergence analysis of the proposed adaptive SM filtering techniques is carried out. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive SM-CM-GSC algorithm with dynamic bounds achieves superior performance to previously reported methods at a reduced update rate.

We present novel convex-optimization-based solutions to the problem of blind beamforming of constant modulus signals, and to the related problem of linearly constrained blind beamforming of constant modulus signals. These solutions ensure global opti mality and are parameter free, namely, do not contain any tuneable parameters and do not require any a-priori parameter settings. The performance of these solutions, as demonstrated by simulated data, is superior to existing methods.

A broadcast network is a classical network with all source messages collocated at a single source node. For broadcast networks, the standard cut-set bounds, which are known to be loose in general, are closely related to union as a specific set operat ion to combine the basic cuts of the network. This paper provides a new set of network coding bounds for general broadcast networks. These bounds combine the basic cuts of the network via a variety of set operations (not just the union) and are established via only the submodularity of Shannon entropy. The tightness of these bounds are demonstrated via applications to combination networks.
The generalized approximate message passing (GAMP) algorithm is an efficient method of MAP or approximate-MMSE estimation of $x$ observed from a noisy version of the transform coefficients $z = Ax$. In fact, for large zero-mean i.i.d sub-Gaussian $A$ , GAMP is characterized by a state evolution whose fixed points, when unique, are optimal. For generic $A$, however, GAMP may diverge. In this paper, we propose adaptive damping and mean-removal strategies that aim to prevent divergence. Numerical results demonstrate significantly enhanced robustness to non-zero-mean, rank-deficient, column-correlated, and ill-conditioned $A$.
We present a message passing algorithm for localization and tracking in multipath-prone environments that implicitly considers obstructed line-of-sight situations. The proposed adaptive probabilistic data association algorithm infers the position of a mobile agent using multiple anchors by utilizing delay and amplitude of the multipath components (MPCs) as well as their respective uncertainties. By employing a nonuniform clutter model, we enable the algorithm to facilitate the position information contained in the MPCs to support the estimation of the agent position without exact knowledge about the environment geometry. Our algorithm adapts in an online manner to both, the time-varying signal-to-noise-ratio and line-of-sight (LOS) existence probability of each anchor. In a numerical analysis we show that the algorithm is able to operate reliably in environments characterized by strong multipath propagation, even if a temporary obstruction of all anchors occurs simultaneously.
In this work, we investigate hybrid analog-digital beamforming (HBF) architectures for uplink cell-free (CF) millimeter-wave (mmWave) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. {We first propose two HBF schemes, namely, decentralized HBF (D-HBF) and semi-centralized HBF (SC-HBF). In the former, both the digital and analog beamformers are generated independently at each AP based on the local channel state information (CSI). In contrast, in the latter, only the digital beamformer is obtained locally at the AP, whereas the analog beamforming matrix is generated at the central processing unit (CPU) based on the global CSI received from all APs. We show that the analog beamformers generated in these two HBF schemes provide approximately the same achievable rates despite the lower complexity of D-HBF and its lack of CSI requirement.} Furthermore, to reduce the power consumption, we propose a novel adaptive radio frequency (RF) chain-activation (ARFA) scheme, which dynamically activates/deactivates RF chains and their connected analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and phase shifters (PSs) at the APs based on the CSI. For the activation of RF chains, low-complexity algorithms are proposed, which can achieve significant improvement in energy efficiency (EE) with only a marginal loss in the total achievable rate.
