We present a fully microscopic three-cluster nuclear model for light nuclei on the basis of a J-Matrix approach. We apply the Modified J-Matrix method on $^{6}He$ and $^{6}Be$ for both scattering and reaction problems, analyse the Modified J-Matrix calculation, and compare the results to experimental data.

We review recent studies of the cluster structure of light nuclei within the framework of the algebraic cluster model (ACM) for nuclei composed of k alpha-particles and within the framework of the cluster shell model (CSM) for nuclei composed of k al pha-particles plus x additional nucleons. The calculations, based on symmetry considerations and thus for the most part given in analytic form, are compared with experiments in light cluster nuclei. The comparison shows evidence for Z_2, D_{3h} and T_d symmetry in the even-even nuclei 8Be (k=2), 12C (k=3) and 16O (k=4), respectively, and for the associated double groups Z_2 and D_{3h} in the odd nuclei 9Be, 9B (k=2, x=1) and 13C (k=3, x=1), respectively.
We present the first ab initio calculations of neutrinoless double beta decay matrix elements in $A=6$-$12$ nuclei using Variational Monte Carlo wave functions obtained from the Argonne $v_{18}$ two-nucleon potential and Illinois-7 three-nucleon inte raction. We study both light Majorana neutrino exchange and potentials arising from a large class of multi-TeV mechanisms of lepton number violation. Our results provide benchmarks to be used in testing many-body methods that can be extended to the heavy nuclei of experimental interest. In light nuclei we have also studied the impact of two-body short range correlations and the use of different forms for the transition operators, such as those corresponding to different orders in chiral effective theory.

Proton emission from deformed nuclei is described within the non-adiabatic weak coupling model which takes into account the coupling to $gamma$-vibrations around the axially-symmetric shape. The coupled equations are derived within the Gamow state fo rmalism. A new method, based on the combination of the R-matrix theory and the oscillator expansion technique, is introduced that allows for a substantial increase of the number of coupled channels. As an example, we study the deformed proton emitter $^{141}$Ho.

The relation of quarteting and clustering in atomic nuclei is discussed based on symmetry-considerations. This connection enables us to predict a complete high-energy cluster spectrum from the description of the low-energy quartet part. As an example the $^{28}$Si nucleus is considered, including its well-established ground-state region, the recently proposed superdeformed band, and the high-lying molecular resonances.
Shape/phase transitions in atomic nuclei have first been discovered in the framework of the Interacting Boson Approximation (IBA) model. Critical point symmetries appropriate for nuclei at the transition points have been introduced as special solutio ns of the Bohr Hamiltonian, stirring the introduction of additional new solutions describing wide ranges of nuclei. The complementarity of the IBA and geometrical approaches will be demonstrated by three examples. First, it will be shown that specific special solutions of the Bohr Hamiltonian correspond to the borders of the critical region of the IBA. Second, it will be demonstrated that the distinct patterns exhibited in different transitional regions by the experimental energy staggering in gamma-bands can be reproduced both by the IBA and by special solutions of the Bohr Hamiltonian. Third, a first attempt to obtain a IBA SU(3) level scheme from a special solution of the Bohr Hamiltonian will be presented.
