In this letter, a novel framework is proposed for analyzing data offloading in a multi-access edge computing system. Specifically, a two-phase algorithm, is proposed, including two key phases: user association phase and task offloading phase. In the first phase, a ruin theory-based approach is developed to obtain the users association considering the users transmission reliability. Meanwhile, in the second phase, an optimization-based algorithm is used to optimize the data offloading process. In particular, ruin theory is used to manage the user association phase, and a ruin probability-based preference profile is considered to control the priority of proposing users. Here, ruin probability is derived by the surplus buffer space of each edge node at each time slot. Giving the association results, an optimization problem is formulated to optimize the amount of offloaded data aiming at minimizing the energy consumption of users. Simulation results show that the developed solutions guarantee system reliability under a tolerable value of surplus buffer size and minimize the total energy consumption of all users.

Mobile edge computing (MEC) provides computational services at the edge of networks by offloading tasks from user equipments (UEs). This letter employs an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as the edge computing server to execute offloaded tasks from the ground UEs. We jointly optimize user association, UAV trajectory, and uploading power of each UE to maximize sum bits offloaded from all UEs to the UAV, subject to energy constraint of the UAV and quality of service (QoS) of each UE. To address the non-convex optimization problem, we first decompose it into three subproblems that are solved with integer programming and successive convex optimization methods respectively. Then, we tackle the overall problem by the multi-variable iterative optimization algorithm. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm can achieve a better performance than other baseline schemes.
In this contribution, the performance of a multi-user system is analyzed in the context of frequency selective fading channels. Using game theoretic tools, a useful framework is provided in order to determine the optimal power allocation when users k now only their own channel (while perfect channel state information is assumed at the base station). We consider the realistic case of frequency selective channels for uplink CDMA. This scenario illustrates the case of decentralized schemes, where limited information on the network is available at the terminal. Various receivers are considered, namely the Matched filter, the MMSE filter and the optimum filter. The goal of this paper is to derive simple expressions for the non-cooperative Nash equilibrium as the number of mobiles becomes large and the spreading length increases. To that end two asymptotic methodologies are combined. The first is asymptotic random matrix theory which allows us to obtain explicit expressions of the impact of all other mobiles on any given tagged mobile. The second is the theory of non-atomic games which computes good approximations of the Nash equilibrium as the number of mobiles grows.

Mobile edge computing (MEC) has recently become a prevailing technique to alleviate the intensive computation burden in Internet of Things (IoT) networks. However, the limited device battery capacity and stringent spectrum resource significantly rest rict the data processing performance of MEC-enabled IoT networks. To address the two performance limitations, we consider in this paper an MEC-enabled IoT system with an energy harvesting (EH) wireless device (WD) which opportunistically accesses the licensed spectrum of an overlaid primary communication link for task offloading. We aim to maximize the long-term average sensing rate of the WD subject to quality of service (QoS) requirement of primary link, average power constraint of MEC server (MS) and data queue stability of both MS and WD. We formulate the problem as a multi-stage stochastic optimization and propose an online algorithm named PLySE that applies the perturbed Lyapunov optimization technique to decompose the original problem into per-slot deterministic optimization problems. For each per-slot problem, we derive the closed-form optimal solution of data sensing and processing control to facilitate low-complexity real-time implementation. Interestingly, our analysis finds that the optimal solution exhibits an threshold-based structure. Simulation results collaborate with our analysis and demonstrate more than 46.7% data sensing rate improvement of the proposed PLySE over representative benchmark methods.
Mobile edge computing (MEC) integrated with multiple radio access technologies (RATs) is a promising technique for satisfying the growing low-latency computation demand of emerging intelligent internet of things (IoT) applications. Under the distribu ted MapReduce framework, this paper investigates the joint RAT selection and transceiver design for over-the-air (OTA) aggregation of intermediate values (IVAs) in wireless multiuser MEC systems, while taking into account the energy budget constraint for the local computing and IVA transmission per wireless device (WD). We aim to minimize the weighted sum of the computation mean squared error (MSE) of the aggregated IVA at the RAT receivers, the WDs IVA transmission cost, and the associated transmission time delay, which is a mixed-integer and non-convex problem. Based on the Lagrange duality method and primal decomposition, we develop a low-complexity algorithm by solving the WDs RAT selection problem, the WDs transmit coefficients optimization problem, and the aggregation beamforming problem. Extensive numerical results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and merit of our proposed algorithm as compared with other existing schemes.

Mobile-edge computing (MEC) has recently emerged as a promising paradigm to liberate mobile devices from increasingly intensive computation workloads, as well as to improve the quality of computation experience. In this paper, we investigate the trad eoff between two critical but conflicting objectives in multi-user MEC systems, namely, the power consumption of mobile devices and the execution delay of computation tasks. A power consumption minimization problem with task buffer stability constraints is formulated to investigate the tradeoff, and an online algorithm that decides the local execution and computation offloading policy is developed based on Lyapunov optimization. Specifically, at each time slot, the optimal frequencies of the local CPUs are obtained in closed forms, while the optimal transmit power and bandwidth allocation for computation offloading are determined with the Gauss-Seidel method. Performance analysis is conducted for the proposed algorithm, which indicates that the power consumption and execution delay obeys an [O (1/V); O (V)] tradeoff with V as a control parameter. Simulation results are provided to validate the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the impacts of various parameters to the system performance.
