We present a brief survey of the spectral theory and dynamics of infinite volume asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. Beginning with their geometry and examples, we proceed to their spectral and scattering theories, dynamics, and the physical description of their quantum and classical mechanics. We conclude with a discussion of recent results, ideas, and conjectures.

We construct transformations which take asymptotically AdS hyperbolic initial data into asymptotically flat initial data, and which preserve relevant physical quantities. This is used to derive geometric inequalities in the asymptotically AdS hyperbo lic setting from counterparts in the asymptotically flat realm, whenever a geometrically motivated system of elliptic equations admits a solution. The inequalities treated here relate mass, angular momentum, charge, and horizon area.
We consider the problem of geometric optimization of the lowest eigenvalue for the Laplacian on a compact, simply-connected two-dimensional manifold with boundary subject to an attractive Robin boundary condition. We prove that in the sub-class of ma nifolds with the Gauss curvature bounded from above by a constant $K_circ ge 0$ and under the constraint of fixed perimeter, the geodesic disk of constant curvature $K_circ$ maximizes the lowest Robin eigenvalue. In the same geometric setting, it is proved that the spectral isoperimetric inequality holds for the lowest eigenvalue of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator. Finally, we adapt our methods to Robin Laplacians acting on unbounded three-dimensional cones to show that, under a constraint of fixed perimeter of the cross-section, the lowest Robin eigenvalue is maximized by the circular cone.

This paper is devoted to investigate the heat trace asymptotic expansion corresponding to the magnetic Steklov eigenvalue problem on Riemannian manifolds with boundary. We establish an effective procedure, by which we can calculate all the coefficien ts $a_0$, $a_1$, $dots$, $a_{n-1}$ of the heat trace asymptotic expansion. In particular, we explicitly give the expressions for the first four coefficients. These coefficients are spectral invariants which provide precise information concerning the volume and curvatures of the boundary of the manifold and some physical quantities by the magnetic Steklov eigenvalues.

Consider a quantum particle trapped between a curved layer of constant width built over a complete, non-compact, $mathcal C^2$ smooth surface embedded in $mathbb{R}^3$. We assume that the surface is asymptotically flat in the sense that the second fu ndamental form vanishes at infinity, and that the surface is not totally geodesic. This geometric setting is known as a quantum layer. We consider the quantum particle to be governed by the Dirichlet Laplacian as Hamiltonian. Our work concerns the existence of bound states with energy beneath the essential spectrum, which implies the existence of discrete spectrum. We first prove that if the Gauss curvature is integrable, and the surface is weakly $kappa$-parabolic, then the discrete spectrum is non-empty. This result implies that if the total Gauss curvature is non-positive, then the discrete spectrum is non-empty. We next prove that if the Gauss curvature is non-negative, then the discrete spectrum is non-empty. Finally, we prove that if the surface is parabolic, then the discrete spectrum is non-empty if the layer is sufficiently thin.

We demonstrate lower bounds for the eigenvalues of compact Bakry-Emery manifolds with and without boundary. The lower bounds for the first eigenvalue rely on a generalised maximum principle which allows gradient estimates in the Riemannian setting to be directly applied to the Bakry-Emery setting. Lower bounds for all eigenvalues are demonstrated using heat kernel estimates and a suitable Sobolev inequality.
