We show that two Dehn surgeries on a knot $K$ never yield manifolds that are homeomorphic as oriented manifolds if $V_K(1) eq 0$ or $V_K(1) eq 0$. As an application, we verify the cosmetic surgery conjecture for all knots with no more than $11$ cross ings except for three $10$-crossing knots and five $11$-crossing knots. We also compute the finite type invariant of order $3$ for two-bridge knots and Whitehead doubles, from which we prove several nonexistence results of purely cosmetic surgery.

Let $K$ be a non-trivial knot in $S^3$, and let $r$ and $r$ be two distinct rational numbers of same sign, allowing $r$ to be infinite; we prove that there is no orientation-preserving homeomorphism between the manifolds $S^3_r(K)$ and $S^3_{r}(K)$. We further generalize this uniqueness result to knots in arbitrary integral homology L-spaces.

We give a rational surgery formula for the Casson-Walker invariant of a 2-component link in $S^{3}$ which is a generalization of Matveev-Polyaks formula. As application, we give more examples of non-hyperbolic L-space $M$ such that knots in $M$ are d etermined by their complements. We also apply the result for the cosmetic crossing conjecture.

By estimating the Turaev genus or the dealternation number, which leads to an estimate of knot floer thickness, in terms of the genus and the braid index, we show that a knot $K$ in $S^{3}$ does not admit purely cosmetic surgery whenever $g(K)geq fra c{3}{2}b(K)$, where $g(K)$ and $b(K)$ denotes the genus and the braid index, respectively. In particular, this establishes a finiteness of purely cosmetic surgeries; for fixed $b$, all but finitely many knots with braid index $b$ satisfies the cosmetic surgery conjecture.
The Knight Move Conjecture claims that the Khovanov homology of any knot decomposes as direct sums of some knight move pairs and a single pawn move pair. This is true for instance whenever the Lee spectral sequence from Khovanov homology to Q^2 conve rges on the second page, as it does for all alternating knots and knots with unknotting number at most 2. We present a counterexample to the Knight Move Conjecture. For this knot, the Lee spectral sequence admits a nontrivial differential of bidegree (1,8).
