We report a $^{75}$As nuclear magnetic resonance study in LaFeAsO single crystals, which undergoes nematic and antiferromagnetic transitions at $T_text{nem}sim 156$ K and $T_N sim 138$ K, respectively. Below $T_text{nem}$, the $^{75}$As spectrum splits sharply into two for an external magnetic field parallel to the orthorhombic $a$ or $b$ axis in the FeAs planes. Our analysis of the data demonstrates that the NMR line splitting arises from an electronically driven rotational symmetry breaking. The $^{75}$As spin-lattice relaxation rate as a function of temperature shows that spin fluctuations are strongly enhanced just below $T_text{nem}$. These NMR findings indicate that nematic order promotes spin fluctuations in magnetically ordered LaFeAsO, as observed in non-magnetic and superconducting FeSe. We conclude that the origin of nematicity is identical in both FeSe and LaFeAsO regardless of whether or not a long range magnetic order develops in the nematic state.

We give evidence for intrinsic, defect-induced bulk paramagnetism in SiC by means of $^{13}$C and $^{29}$Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The temperature dependence of the internal dipole-field distribution, probed by the spin part o f the NMR Knight shift and the spectral linewidth, follows a Curie law and scales very well with the macroscopic DC susceptibility. In order to quantitatively analyze the NMR spectra, a microscopic model based on dipole-dipole interactions was developed. The very good agreement between these simulations and the NMR data establishes a direct relation between the frequency distribution of the spectral intensity and the corresponding real-space volumes of nuclear spins. The presented approach by NMR can be applied to a variety of similar materials and, thus, opens a new avenue for the microscopic exploration and exploitation of diluted bulk magnetism in semiconductors.
We report $^{75}$As-NMR results for CrAs under pressure, which shows superconductivity adjoining a helimagnetically ordered state. We successfully evaluated the Knight shift from the spectrum, which is strongly affected by the quadrupole interaction. The Knight shift shows the remarkable feature that the uniform spin susceptibility increases toward low temperatures in the paramagnetic state. This is in sharp contrast to CrAs at ambient pressure, and also to cuprates and Fe pnictides, where antiferromagnetic correlations are dominant. Superconductivity emerges in CrAs under unique magnetic correlations, which probably originate in the three-dimensional zigzag structure of its nonsymmorphic symmetry.
We have studied the magnetism in superconducting single crystals of EuFe2 As1.4 P0.6 by using the local probe techniques of zero-field muon spin rotation/relaxation and 151 Eu/57 Fe Mossbauer spec- troscopy. All of these measurements reveal magnetic hyperfine fields below the magnetic ordering temperature TM = 18 K of the Eu2+ moments. The analysis of the data shows that there is a coexistence of ferromagnetism, resulting from Eu2+ moments ordered along the crystallographic c-axis, and superconductivity below TSC approx 15 K. We find indications for a change in the dynamics of the small Fe magnetic moments (sim 0.07 mu B) at the onset of superconductivity: below TSC the Fe magnetic moments seem to be frozen within the ab-plane.

The low-temperature thermal conductivity (kappa) of GdFeO_3 single crystals is found to be strongly dependent on magnetic field. The low-field kappa (H) curves show two dips for H parallel a and only one dip for H parallel c, with the characteristic fields having good correspondence with the spin-flop and the spin-polarization transitions. A remarkable phenomenon is that the subKelvin thermal conductivity shows hysteretic behaviors on the history of applying magnetic field, that is, the kappa(H) isotherms measured with field increasing are larger than those with field decreasing. Intriguingly, the broad region of magnetic field (sim 0--3 T) showing the irreversibility of heat transport coincides with that presenting the ferroelectricity. It is discussed that the irreversible kappa(H) behaviors are due to the phonon scattering by ferroelectric domain walls. This result shows an experimental feature that points to the capability of controlling the ferroelectric domain structures by magnetic field in multiferroic materials.
We have performed $^{63}$Cu nuclear magnetic resonance/nuclear quadrupole resonance measurements to investigate the magnetic and superconducting (SC) properties on a superconductivity dominant ($S$-type) single crystal of CeCu$_2$Si$_2$. Although the development of antiferromagnetic (AFM) fluctuations down to 1~K indicated that the AFM criticality was close, Korringa behavior was observed below 0.8~K, and no magnetic anomaly was observed above $T_{rm c} sim$ 0.6 K. These behaviors were expected in $S$-type CeCu$_2$Si$_2$. The temperature dependence of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ at zero field was almost identical to that in the previous polycrystalline samples down to 130~mK, but the temperature dependence deviated downward below 120~mK. In fact, $1/T_1$ in the SC state could be fitted with the two-gap $s_{pm}$-wave rather than the two-gap $s_{++}$-wave model down to 90~mK. Under magnetic fields, the spin susceptibility in both directions clearly decreased below $T_{rm c}$, indicative of the formation of spin singlet pairing. The residual part of the spin susceptibility was understood by the field-induced residual density of states evaluated from $1/T_1T$, which was ascribed to the effect of the vortex cores. No magnetic anomaly was observed above the upper critical field $H_{c2}$, but the development of AFM fluctuations was observed, indicating that superconductivity was realized in strong AFM fluctuations.
