We propose a theoretical framework that captures the geometric vector potential emerging from the non-adiabatic spin dynamics of itinerant carriers subject to arbitrary magnetic textures. Our approach results in a series of constraints on the geometric potential and the non-adiabatic geometric phase associated with it. These constraints play a decisive role when studying the geometric spin phase gathered by conducting electrons in ring interferometers under the action of in-plane magnetic textures, allowing a simple characterization of the topological transition recently reported by Saarikoski et al. [Phys. Rev. B 91, 241406(R) (2015)] in Ref. 1.

We present a new non-adiabatic ring polymer molecular dynamics (NRPMD) method based on the spin mapping formalism, which we refer to as the spin-mapping NRPMD (SM-NRPMD) approach. We derive the path-integral partition function expression using the sp in coherent state basis for the electronic states and the ring polymer formalism for the nuclear degrees of freedom (DOFs). This partition function provides an efficient sampling of the quantum statistics. Using the basic property of the Stratonovich-Weyl transformation, we derive a Hamiltonian which we propose for the dynamical propagation of the coupled spin mapping variables and the nuclear ring polymer. The accuracy of the SM-NRPMD method is numerically demonstrated by computing nuclear position and population auto-correlation functions of non-adiabatic model systems. The results from SM-NRPMD agree very well with the numerically exact results. The main advantage of using the spin mapping variables over the harmonic oscillator mapping variables is numerically demonstrated, where the former provides nearly time-independent expectation values of physical observables for systems under thermal equilibrium, the latter can not preserve the initial quantum Boltzmann distribution. We also explicitly demonstrate that SM-NRPMD provides invariant dynamics upon various ways of partitioning the state-dependent and state-independent potentials.
We consider a finite quantum system under slow driving and weakly coupled to thermal reservoirs at different temperatures. We present a systematic derivation of the quantum master equation for the density matrix and the out-of-time-order correlators. We start from the microscopic Hamiltonian and we formulate the equations ruling the dynamics of these quantities by recourse to the Schwinger-Keldysh non-equilibrium Greens function formalism, performing a perturbative expansion in the coupling between the system and the reservoirs. We focus on the adiabatic dynamics, which corresponds to considering the linear response in the ratio between the relaxation time due to the system-reservoir coupling and the time scale associated to the driving. We calculate the particle and energy fluxes. We illustrate the formalism in the case of a qutrit coupled to bosonic reservoirs and of a pair of interacting quantum dots attached to fermionic reservoirs, also discussing the relevance of coherent effects.

We discuss the semiclassical and classical character of the dynamics of a single spin 1/2 coupled to a bath of noninteracting spins 1/2. On the semiclassical level, we extend our previous approach presented in D. Stanek, C. Raas, and G. S. Uhrig, Phy s. Rev. B 88, 155305 (2013) by the explicit consideration of the conservation of the total spin. On the classical level, we compare the results of the classical equations of motions in absence and presence of an external field to the full quantum result obtained by density-matrix renormalization (DMRG). We show that for large bath sizes and not too low magnetic field the classical dynamics, averaged over Gaussian distributed initial spin vectors, agrees quantitatively with the quantum-mechanical one. This observation paves the way for an efficient approach for certain parameter regimes.
Semiconductor quantum-dot spin qubits are a promising platform for quantum computation, because they are scalable and possess long coherence times. In order to realize this full potential, however, high-fidelity information transfer mechanisms are re quired for quantum error correction and efficient algorithms. Here, we present evidence of adiabatic quantum-state transfer in a chain of semiconductor quantum-dot electron spins. By adiabatically modifying exchange couplings, we transfer single- and two-spin states between distant electrons in less than 127 ns. We also show that this method can be cascaded for spin-state transfer in long spin chains. Based on simulations, we estimate that the probability to correctly transfer single-spin eigenstates and two-spin singlet states can exceed 0.95 for the experimental parameters studied here. In the future, state and process tomography will be required to verify the transfer of arbitrary single qubit states with a fidelity exceeding the classical bound. Adiabatic quantum-state transfer is robust to noise and pulse-timing errors. This method will be useful for initialization, state distribution, and readout in large spin-qubit arrays for gate-based quantum computing. It also opens up the possibility of universal adiabatic quantum computing in semiconductor quantum-dot spin qubits.
We introduce an adiabatic transfer protocol for spin states in large quantum dot arrays that is based on time-dependent modulation of the Heisenberg exchange interaction in the presence of a magnetic field gradient. We refer to this protocol as spin- CTAP (coherent transport by adiabatic passage) in analogy to a related protocol developed for charge state transfer in quantum dot arrays. The insensitivity of this adiabatic protocol to pulse imperfections has potential advantages for reading out extended spin qubit arrays. When the static exchange interaction varies across the array, a quantum-controlled version of spin-CTAP is possible, where the transfer process is conditional on the spin states in the middle of the array. This conditional operation can be used to generate N-qubit entangled GHZ states. Using a realistic noise model, we analyze the robustness of the spin-CTAP operations and find that high-fidelity (>95%) spin eigenstate transfer and GHZ state preparation is feasible in current devices.
