We show that an orientable pseudo-Anosov homeomorphism has vanishing Sah-Arnoux-Fathi invariant if and only if the minimal polynomial of its dilatation is not reciprocal. We relate this to works of Margalit-Spallone and Birman, Brinkmann and Kawamuro. Mainly, we use Veechs construction of pseudo-Anosov maps to give explicit pseudo-Anosov maps of vanishing Sah-Arnoux-Fathi invariant. In particular, we give new infinite families of such maps in genus 3.

We give explicit pseudo-Anosov homeomorphisms with vanishing Sah-Arnoux-Fathi invariant. Any translation surface whose Veech group is commensurable to any of a large class of triangle groups is shown to have an affine pseudo-Anosov homeomorphism of t his type. We also apply a reduction to finite triangle groups and thereby show the existence of non-parabolic elements in the periodic field of certain translation surfaces.
We investigate the structure of the characteristic polynomial det(xI-T) of a transition matrix T that is associated to a train track representative of a pseudo-Anosov map [F] acting on a surface. As a result we obtain three new polynomial invariants of [F], one of them being the product of the other two, and all three being divisors of det(xI-T). The degrees of the new polynomials are invariants of [F ] and we give simple formulas for computing them by a counting argument from an invariant train track. We give examples of genus 2 pseudo-Anosov maps having the same dilatation, and use our invariants to distinguish them.

We exhibit a pseudo-Anosov homeomorphism of a surface S which acts trivially on the first homology group of S and whose flux is non zero

We prove that for Anosov maps of the $3$-torus if the Lyapunov exponents of absolutely continuous measures in every direction are equal to the geometric growth of the invariant foliations then $f$ is $C^1$ conjugated to his linear part.
We consider $f, h$ homeomorphims generating a faithful $BS(1,n)$-action on a closed surface $S$, that is, $h f h^{-1} = f^n$, for some $ ngeq 2$. According to cite{GL}, after replacing $f$ by a suitable iterate if necessary, we can assume that there exists a minimal set $Lambda$ of the action, included in $Fix(f)$. Here, we suppose that $f$ and $h$ are $C^1$ in neighbourhood of $Lambda$ and any point $xinLambda$ admits an $h$-unstable manifold $W^u(x)$. Using Bonattis techniques, we prove that either there exists an integer $N$ such that $W^u(x)$ is included in $Fix(f^N)$ or there is a lower bound for the norm of the differential of $h$ only depending on $n$ and the Riemannian metric on $S$. Combining last statement with a result of cite{AGX}, we show that any faithful action of $BS(1, n)$ on $S$ with $h$ a pseudo-Anosov homeomorphism has a finite orbit. As a consequence, there is no faithful $C^1$-action of $BS(1, n)$ on the torus with $h$ an Anosov.
