In this note we continue our investigations of the representation theoretic aspects of reflection positivity, also called Osterwalder--Schrader positivity. We explain how this concept relates to affine isometric actions on real Hilbert spaces and how this is connected with Gaussian processes with stationary increments.
We introduce a concept of a quantum wide sense stationary process taking values in a C*-algebra and expected in a sub-algebra. The power spectrum of such a process is defined, in analogy to classical theory, as a positive measure on frequency space t
aking values in the expected algebra. The notion of linear quantum filters is introduced as some simple examples mentioned.
In this article we study the connection of fractional Brownian motion, representation theory and reflection positivity in quantum physics. We introduce and study reflection positivity for affine isometric actions of a Lie group on a Hilbert space E a
nd show in particular that fractional Brownian motion for Hurst index 0<Hle 1/2 is reflection positive and leads via reflection positivity to an infinite dimensional Hilbert space if 0<H <1/2. We also study projective invariance of fractional Brownian motion and relate this to the complementary series representations of GL(2,R). We relate this to a measure preserving action on a Gaussian L^2-Hilbert space L^2(E).
In Section 1 we review various equivalent definitions of a vertex algebra V. The main novelty here is the definition in terms of an indefinite integral of the lambda-bracket. In Section 2 we construct, in the most general framework, the Zhu algebra Z
hu_G V, an associative algebra which controls G-twisted representations of the vertex algebra V with a given Hamiltonian operator H. An important special case of this construction is the H-twisted Zhu algebra Zhu_H V. In Section 3 we review the theory of non-linear Lie conformal algebras (respectively non-linear Lie algebras). Their universal enveloping vertex algebras (resp. universal enveloping algebras) form an important class of freely generated vertex algebras (resp. PBW generated associative algebras). We also introduce the H-twisted Zhu non-linear Lie algebra Zhu_H R of a non-linear Lie conformal algebra R and we show that its universal enveloping algebra is isomorphic to the H-twisted Zhu algebra of the universal enveloping vertex algebra of R. After a discussion of the necessary cohomological material in Section 4, we review in Section 5 the construction and basic properties of affine and finite W-algebras, obtained by the method of quantum Hamiltonian reduction. Those are some of the most intensively studied examples of freely generated vertex algebras and PBW generated associative algebras. Applying the machinery developed in Sections 3 and 4, we then show that the H-twisted Zhu algebra of an affine W-algebra is isomorphic to the finite W-algebra, attached to the same data. In Section 6 we define the Zhu algebra of a Poisson vertex algebra, and we discuss quasiclassical limits.
A function of positive type can be defined as a positive functional on a convolution algebra of a locally compact group. In the case where the group is abelian, by Bochners theorem a function of positive type is, up to normalization, the Fourier tran
sform of a probability measure. Therefore, considering the group of translations on phase space, a suitably normalized phase-space function of positive type can be regarded as a realization of a classical state. Thus, it may be called a function of classical positive type. Replacing the ordinary convolution on phase space with the twisted convolution, one obtains a noncommutative algebra of functions whose positive functionals we may call functions of quantum positive type. In fact, by a quantum version of Bochners theorem, a continuous function of quantum positive type is, up to normalization, the (symplectic) Fourier transform of a Wigner quasi-probability distribution; hence, it can be regarded as a phase-space realization of a quantum state. Playing with functions of positive type, classical and quantum, one is led in a natural way to consider a class of semigroups of operators, the classical-quantum semigroups. The physical meaning of these mathematical objects is unveiled via quantization, so obtaining a class of quantum dynamical semigroups that, borrowing terminology from quantum information science, may be called classical-noise semigroups.
The general construction of frames of p-adic wavelets is described. We consider the orbit of a mean zero generic locally constant function with compact support (mean zero test function) with respect to the action of the p-adic affine group and show t
hat this orbit is a uniform tight frame. We discuss relation of this result to the multiresolution wavelet analysis.
