A method of construction of solution for acoustic-gravity waves (AGW) above a wave source, taking dissipation throughout the atmosphere into account (Dissipative Solution above Source, DSAS), is proposed. The method is to combine three solutions for three parts of the atmosphere: an analytical solution for the upper isothermal part and numerical solutions for the real non-isothermal dissipative atmosphere in the middle part and for the real non-isothermal small dissipation atmosphere in the lower one. In this paper the method has been carried out for the atmosphere with thermal conductivity but without viscosity. The heights of strong dissipation and the total absorption index in the regions of weak and average dissipation are found. For internal gravity waves the results of test calculations for an isothermal atmosphere and calculations for a real non-isothermal atmosphere are shown in graphical form. An algorithm and appropriate code to calculate DSAS, taking dissipation due to finite thermal conductivity into account throughout the atmosphere, are developed. The results of test DSAS calculations for an everywhere isothermal atmosphere are given. The calculation results for DSAS for the real non-isothermal atmosphere are also presented. A method for constructing of the 2x2 Greens matrix fully taking dissipation into account and allowing to find disturbance from some source of AGW in the atmosphere is proposed.

Trapped atmosphere waves, such as IGW waveguide modes and Lamb modes, are described using dissipative solution above source (DSAS) (Dmitrienko and Rudenko, 2016). Accordingly this description, the modes are disturbances penetrating without limit in t he upper atmosphere and dissipating their energy throughout the atmosphere; leakage from a trapping region to the upper atmosphere is taken in consideration. The DSAS results are compared to those based on both accurate and WKB approximated dissipationless equations. It is shown that the spatial and frequency characteristics of modes in the upper atmosphere calculated by any of the methods are close to each other and are in good agreement with the observed characteristics of traveling ionospheric disturbances.
Recently, Nadir and Occultation for Mars Discovery (NOMAD) ultraviolet and visible spectrometer instrument on board the European Space Agencys ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) simultaneously measured the limb emission intensities for both [OI] 2972 an d 5577 {AA} (green) emissions in the dayside of Martian upper atmosphere. We aim to explore the photochemistry of all these forbidden atomic oxygen emissions ([OI] 2972, 5577, 6300, 6464 {AA}) in the Martian daylight upper atmosphere and suitable conditions for the simultaneous detection of these emissions lines in the dayside visible spectra. A photochemical model is developed to study the production and loss processes of O(1S) and O(1D) by incorporating various chemical reactions of different O-bearing species in the upper atmosphere of Mars. By reducing Fox (2004) modelled neutral density profiles by a factor of 2, the calculated limb intensity profiles for [OI] 5577 and 2972 {AA} emissions are found to be consistent with the NOMAD-TGO observations. In this case, at altitudes below 120 km, our modelled limb intensity for [OI] 6300 {AA} emission is smaller by a factor 2 to 5 compared to that of NOMAD-TGO observation for [OI] 2972 {AA} emission, and above this distance it is comparable with the upper limit of the observation. We studied various parameters which can influence the limb intensities of these atomic oxygen forbidden emission lines. Our calculated limb intensity for [OI] 6300 {AA} emission, when the Mars is at near perihelion and for solar maximum condition, suggests that all these forbidden emissions should be observable in the NOMAD-TGO visible spectra taken on the dayside of Martian upper atmosphere. More simultaneous observations of forbidden atomic oxygen emission lines will help to understand the photochemical processes of oxygen-bearing species in the dayside Martian upper atmosphere.

The impact of gravity waves (GW) on diurnal tides and the global circulation in the middle/upper atmosphere of Mars is investigated using a General Circulation Model (GCM). We have implemented a stochastic parameterization of non-orographic GW into t he Laboratoire de Meteorologie Dynamique (LMD) Mars GCM (LMD-MGCM) following an innovative approach. The source is assumed to be located above typical convective cells ($sim$ 250 Pa) and the effect of GW on the circulation and predicted thermal structure above 1 Pa ($sim$ 50 km) is analyzed. We focus on the comparison between model simulations and observations by the Mars Climate Sounder (MCS) on board Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter during Martian Year 29. MCS data provide the only systematic measurements of the Martian mesosphere up to 80 km to date. The primary effect of GW is to damp the thermal tides by reducing the diurnal oscillation of the meridional and zonal winds. The GW drag reaches magnitudes of the order of 1 m/s/sol above 10$^{-2}$ Pa in the northern hemisphere winter solstice and produces major changes in the zonal wind field (from tens to hundreds of m/s), while the impact on the temperature field is relatively moderate (10-20K). It suggests that GW induced alteration of the meridional flow is the main responsible for the simulated temperature variation. The results also show that with the GW scheme included, the maximum day-night temperature difference due to the diurnal tide is around 10K, and the peak of the tide is shifted toward lower altitudes, in better agreement with MCS observations.

Earths modern atmosphere is highly oxygenated and is a remotely detectable signal of its surface biosphere. However, the lifespan of oxygen-based biosignatures in Earths atmosphere remains uncertain, particularly for the distant future. Here we use a combined biogeochemistry and climate model to examine the likely timescale of oxygen-rich atmospheric conditions on Earth. Using a stochastic approach, we find that the mean future lifespan of Earths atmosphere with oxygen levels more than 1% of the present atmospheric level is 1.08+-0.14 billion years. The model projects that a deoxygenation of the atmosphere, with atmospheric oxygen dropping sharply to levels reminiscnet of the Archaean Earth, will most probably be triggered before the inception of moist greenhouse conditions in Earths climate system and before the extensive loss of surface water from the atmosphere. We find that future deoxygenation is an inevitable consequence of increasing solar fluxes, whereas its precise timing is modulated by the exchange flux of reducing power between the mantle and the ocean-atmosphere-crust system. Our results suggest that the planetary carbonate-silicate cycle will tend to lead to terminally CO2-limited biospheres and rapid atmospheric deoxygenation, emphasizing the need for robust atmospheric biosignatures applicable to weakly oxygenated and anoxic exoplanet atmospheres and highlighting the potential importance of atmospheric organic haze during the terminal stages of planetary habitability.
The chemical composition of an exoplanet is a key ingredient in constraining its formation history. Iron is the most abundant transition metal, but has never been directly detected in an exoplanet due to its highly refractory nature. KELT-9b (HD 1956 89b) is the archetype of the class of ultra-hot Jupiters that straddle the transition between stars and gas-giant exoplanets and serve as distinctive laboratories for studying atmospheric chemistry, because of its high equilibrium temperature of 4050 +/- 180 K. These properties imply that its atmosphere is a tightly constrained chemical system that is expected to be nearly in chemical equilibrium and cloud-free. It was previously predicted that the spectral lines of iron will be detectable in the visible range of wavelengths. At these high temperatures, iron and several other transition metals are not sequestered in molecules or cloud particles and exist solely in their atomic forms. Here, we report the direct detection of atomic neutral and singly-ionized iron (Fe and Fe+), and singly-ionized titanium (Ti+) in KELT-9b via the cross-correlation technique applied to high-resolution spectra obtained during the primary transit of the exoplanet.
