Accurate simulations of isotropic permanent magnets require to take the magnetization process into account and consider the anisotropic, nonlinear, and hysteretic material behaviour near the saturation configuration. An efficient method for the solution of the magnetostatic Maxwell equations including the description of isotropic permanent magnets is presented. The algorithm can easily be implemented on top of existing finite element methods and does not require a full characterization of the hysteresis of the magnetic material. Strayfield measurements of an isotropic permanent magnet and simulation results are in good agreement and highlight the importance of a proper description of the isotropic material.

It is shown that the magnetic-field coils of a stellarator can, at least in principle, be substantially simplified by the use of permanent magnets. Such magnets cannot create toroidal magnetic flux but they can be used to shape the plasma and thus to create poloidal flux and rotational transform, thereby easing the requirements on the magnetic-field coils. As an example, a quasiaxisymmetric stellarator configuration is constructed with only 8 circular coils (all identical) and permanent magnets.

This paper presents an extension of the hybrid scheme proposed by Wang et al. (J. Comput. Phys. 229 (2010) 169-180) for numerical simulation of compressible isotropic turbulence to flows with higher turbulent Mach numbers. The scheme still utilizes a n 8th-order compact scheme with built-in hyperviscosity for smooth regions and a 7th-order WENO scheme for highly compressive regions, but now both in their conservation formulations and for the latter with the Roe type characteristic-wise reconstruction. To enhance the robustness of the WENO scheme without compromising its high-resolution and accuracy, the recursive-order-reduction procedure is adopted, where a new type of reconstruction-failure-detection criterion is constructed. To capture the upwind direction properly in extreme conditions, the global Lax-Friedrichs numerical flux is used. In addition, a new form of cooling function is proposed, which is proved to be positivity-preserving. With these techniques, the new scheme not only inherits the good properties of the original one but also extends largely the computable range of turbulent Mach number, which has been further confirmed by numerical results.

An unconventional magnet may be mapped onto a simple ferromagnet by the existence of a high-symmetry point. Knowledge of conventional ferromagnetic systems may then be carried over to provide insight into more complex orders. Here we demonstrate how an unsupervised and interpretable machine-learning approach can be used to search for potential high-symmetry points in unconventional magnets without any prior knowledge of the system. The method is applied to the classical Heisenberg-Kitaev model on a honeycomb lattice, where our machine learns the transformations that manifest its hidden $O(3)$ symmetry, without using data of these high-symmetry points. Moreover, we clarify that, in contrast to the stripy and zigzag orders, a set of $D_2$ and $D_{2h}$ ordering matrices provides a more complete description of the magnetization in the Heisenberg-Kitaev model. In addition, our machine also learns the local constraints at the phase boundaries, which manifest a subdimensional symmetry. This paper highlights the importance of explicit order parameters to many-body spin systems and the property of interpretability for the physical application of machine-learning techniques.
In this work we investigate the potential of tetragonal L1$_0$ ordered FeNi as candidate phase for rare earth free permanent magnets taking into account anisotropy values from recently synthesized, partially ordered FeNi thin films. In particular, we estimate the maximum energy product ($BH$)$_mathrm{max}$ of L1$_0$-FeNi nanostructures using micromagnetic simulations. The maximum energy product is limited due to the small coercive field of partially ordered L1$_0$-FeNi. Nano-structured magnets consisting of 128 equi-axed, platelet-like and columnar-shaped grains show a theoretical maximum energy product of 228 kJ/m$^3$, 208 kJ/m$^3$, 252 kJ/m$^3$, respectively.
Numerical simulation for comminution processes inside the vial of ball mills are performed using Monte Carlo method. The internal dynamics is represented by recently developed model based on hamiltonian involving the impact and surrounding electromag netic potentials. The paper is focused on investigating the behaviors of normalized macroscopic pressure, $P/{P_0}$, in term of system temperature and the milled powder mass. The results provide theoretical justification that high efficiency is expected at low system temperature region. It is argued that keeping the system temperature as low as possible is crucial to prevent agglomeration which is a severe obstacle for further comminution processes.
