Differential cross sections for the gamma p -> pi^0 p reaction have been measured with the A2 tagged-photon facilities at the Mainz Microtron, MAMI C, up to the center-of-mass energy W=1.9 GeV. The new results, obtained with a fine energy and angular binning, increase the existing quantity of pi^0 photoproduction data by ~47%. Owing to the unprecedented statistical accuracy and the full angular coverage, the results are sensitive to high partial-wave amplitudes. This is demonstrated by the decomposition of the differential cross sections in terms of Legendre polynomials and by further comparison to model predictions. A new solution of the SAID partial-wave analysis obtained after adding the new data into the fit is presented.

The reaction $gamma p to pi^0 pi^0 p$ has been measured using the TAPS BaF$_2$ calorimeter at the tagged photon facility of the Mainz Microtron accelerator. Chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) predicts that close to threshold this channel is significan tly enhanced compared to double pion final states with charged pions. In contrast to other reaction channels, the lower order tree terms are strongly suppressed in 2$pi^0$ photoproduction. The consequence is the dominance of pion loops in the 2$pi^0$ channel close to threshold - a result that opens new prospects for the test of ChPT and in particular its inherent loop terms. The present measurement is the first which is sensitive enough for a conclusive comparison with the ChPT calculation and is in agreement with its prediction. The data also show good agreement with a calculation in the unitary chiral approach.
An experimental study of the $etato pi^0pi^0eta to 6gamma$ decay has been conducted with the best up-to-date statistical accuracy, by measuring $eta$ mesons produced in the $gamma p to eta p$ reaction with the A2 tagged-photon facility at the Mainz M icrotron, MAMI. The results obtained for the standard parametrization of the $etato pi^0pi^0eta$ matrix element are consistent with the most recent results for $etatopipieta$ decays, but have smaller uncertainties. The available statistics and experimental resolution allowed, for the first time, an observation of a structure below the $pi^+pi^-$ mass threshold, the magnitude and sign of which, checked within the framework of the nonrelativistic effective-field theory, demonstrated good agreement with the cusp that was predicted based on the $pipi$ scattering length combination, $a_0-a_2$, extracted from $K to 3pi$ decays.
The Dalitz decays eta -> e^+e^-g and omega -> pi^0 e^+e^- have been measured in the g p -> eta p and g p -> omega p reactions, respectively, with the A2 tagged-photon facility at the Mainz Microtron, MAMI. The value obtained for the slope parameter o f the electromagnetic transition form factor of eta, Lambda^{-2}_eta=(1.97+/-0.11_tot) GeV^{-2}, is in good agreement with previous measurements of the eta -> e^+e^-g and eta -> mu^+mu^-g decays. The uncertainty obtained in the value of Lambda^{-2}_eta is lower than in previous results based on the eta -> e^+e^-g decay. The value obtained for the omega slope parameter, Lambda^{-2}_omega_pi^0 = (1.99+/-0.21_tot) GeV^{-2}, is somewhat lower than previous measurements based on omega -> pi^0 mu^+mu^-, but the results for the omega transition form factor are in better agreement with theoretical calculations, compared to earlier experiments.

Exclusive photoproduction of $rho^0(770)$ mesons is studied using the H1 detector at the $ep$ collider HERA. A sample of about 900000 events is used to measure single- and double-differential cross sections for the reaction $gamma p to pi^{+}pi^{-}Y$ . Reactions where the proton stays intact (${m_Y{=}m_p}$) are statistically separated from those where the proton dissociates to a low-mass hadronic system ($m_p{<}m_Y{<}10$ GeV). The double-differential cross sections are measured as a function of the invariant mass $m_{pipi}$ of the decay pions and the squared $4$-momentum transfer $t$ at the proton vertex. The measurements are presented in various bins of the photon-proton collision energy $W_{gamma p}$. The phase space restrictions are $0.5 < m_{pipi} < 2.2$ GeV, ${vert tvert < 1.5}$ GeV${}^2$, and ${20 < W_{gamma p} < 80}$ GeV. Cross section measurements are presented for both elastic and proton-dissociative scattering. The observed cross section dependencies are described by analytic functions. Parametrising the $m_{pipi}$ dependence with resonant and non-resonant contributions added at the amplitude level leads to a measurement of the $rho^{0}(770)$ meson mass and width at $m_rho = 770.8 {}^{+2.6}_{-2.7}$ (tot) MeV and $Gamma_rho = 151.3 {}^{+2.7}_{-3.6}$ (tot) MeV, respectively. The model is used to extract the $rho^0(770)$ contribution to the $pi^{+}pi^{-}$ cross sections and measure it as a function of $t$ and $W_{gamma p}$. In a Regge asymptotic limit in which one Regge trajectory $alpha(t)$ dominates, the intercept $alpha(t{=}0) = 1.0654 {}^{+0.0098}_{-0.0067}$ (tot) and the slope $alpha^prime(t{=}0) = 0.233 {}^{+0.067 }_{-0.074 }$ (tot) GeV${}^{-2}$ of the $t$ dependence are extracted for the case $m_Y{=}m_p$.
We report a measurement of the $pi^-$ photoproduction beam asymmetry for the reaction $vec{gamma} p rightarrow pi^- Delta^{++}$ using data from the GlueX experiment in the photon beam energy range 8.2--8.8 GeV. The asymmetry $Sigma$ is measured as a function of four-momentum transfer $t$ to the $Delta^{++}$ and compared to phenomenological models. We find that $Sigma$ varies as a function of $t$: negative at smaller values and positive at higher values of $|t|$. The reaction can be described theoretically by $t$-channel particle exchange requiring pseudoscalar, vector, and tensor intermediaries. In particular, this reaction requires charge exchange, allowing us to probe pion exchange and the significance of higher-order corrections to one-pion exchange at low momentum transfer. Constraining production mechanisms of conventional mesons may aid in the search for and study of unconventional mesons. This is the first measurement of the process at this energy.
