We study fundamental optical gap solitons in the model of a fiber Bragg grating (BG), which is subjected to a periodic modulation of the local reflectivity, giving rise to a supergrating. In addition, the local refractive index is also periodically modulated with the same period. It is known that the supergrating opens an infinite system of new bandgaps in the BGs spectrum. We use a combination of analytical and computational methods to show that each emerging bandgap is filled with gap solitons (GSs), including asymmetric ones and bound states of the GSs. In particular, bifurcations of the GSs created by the supergrating are studied in terms of a geometric analysis.

We report results of a systematic study of one-dimensional four-wave moving solitons in a recently proposed model of the Bragg cross-grating in planar optical waveguides with the Kerr nonlinearity; the same model applies to a fiber Bragg grating (BG) carrying two polarizations of light. We concentrate on the case when the systems spectrum contains no true bandgap, but only semi-gaps (which are gaps only with respect to one branch of the dispersion relation), that nevertheless support soliton families. Solely zero-velocity solitons were previously studied in this system, while current experiments cannot generate solitons with the velocity smaller than half the maximum group velocity. We find the semi-gaps for the moving solitons in an analytical form, and demonstrated that they are completely filled with (numerically found) solitons. Stability of the moving solitons is identified in direct simulations. The stability region strongly depends on the frustration parameter, which controls the difference of the present system from the usual model for the single BG. A completely new situation is possible, when the velocity interval for stable solitons is limited not only from above, but also from below. Collisions between stable solitons may be both elastic and strongly inelastic. Close to their instability border, the solitons collide elastically only if their velocities c1 and c2 are small; however, collisions between more robust solitons are elastic in a strip around c1=-c2.
We present eight types of spatial optical solitons which are possible in a model of a planar waveguide that includes a dual-channel trapping structure and competing (cubic-quintic) nonlinearity. Among the families of trapped beams are symmetric and a ntisymmetric solitons of broad and narrow types, composite states, built as combinations of broad and narrow beams with identical or opposite signs (unipolar and bipolar states, respectively), and single-sided broad and narrow beams trapped, essentially, in a single channel. The stability of the families is investigated via eigenvalues of small perturbations, and is verified in direct simulations. Three species - narrow symmetric, broad antisymmetric, and unipolar composite states - are unstable to perturbations with real eigenvalues, while the other five families are stable. The unstable states do not decay, but, instead, spontaneously transform themselves into persistent breathers, which, in some cases, demonstrate dynamical symmetry breaking and chaotic internal oscillations. A noteworthy feature is a stability exchange between the broad and narrow antisymmetric states: in the limit when the two channels merge into one, the former species becomes stable, while the latter one loses its stability. Different branches of the stationary states are linked by four bifurcations, which take different forms in the model with the strong and weak inter-channel coupling.
We construct families of fundamental, dipole, and tripole solitons in the fractional Schr{o}dinger equation (FSE) incorporating self-focusing cubic and defocusing quintic terms modulated by factors $cos ^{2}x$ and $sin^{2}x$, respectively. While the fundamental solitons are similar to those in the model with the uniform nonlinearity, the multipole complexes exist only in the presence of the nonlinear lattice. The shapes and stability of all the solitons strongly depend on the L{e}vy index (LI) that determines the FSE fractionality. Stability areas are identified in the plane of LI and propagation constant by means of numerical methods, and some results are explained with the help of an analytical approximation. The stability areas are broadest for the fundamental solitons and narrowest for the tripoles.
We consider a topological Floquet insulator consisting of two honeycomb arrays of identical waveguides having opposite helicities. The interface between the arrays supports two distinct topological edge states, which can be resonantly coupled by addi tional weak longitudinal refractive index modulation with a period larger than the helix period. In the presence of Kerr nonlinearity, such coupled edge states enable topological Bragg solitons. Theory and examples of such solitons are presented.
We study dynamics of Dirac solitons in prototypical networks modeling them by the nonlinear Dirac equation on metric graphs. Soliton solutions of the nonlinear Dirac equation on simple metric graphs are obtained. It is shown that these solutions prov ide reflectionless vertex transmission of the Dirac solitons under suitable conditions. The constraints for bond nonlinearity coefficients, allowing reflectionless transmission over a Y-junction are derived. The analytical results are confirmed by direct numerical simulations.
