C-theory provides a unified framework to study metric, metric-affine and more general theories of gravity. In the vacuum weak-field limit of these theories, the parameterized post-Newtonian (PPN) parameters $beta$ and $gamma$ can differ from their general relativistic values. However, there are several classes of models featuring long-distance modifications of gravity but nevertheless passing the Solar system tests. Here it is shown how to compute the PPN parameters in C-theories and also in nonminimally coupled curvature theories, correcting previous results in the literature for the latter.

We examine the post-Newtonian limit of the minimal exponential measure (MEMe) model presented in [J. C. Feng, S. Carloni, Phys. Rev. D 101, 064002 (2020)] using an extension of the parameterized post-Newtonian (PPN) formalism which is also suitable f or other type-I minimally modified Gravity theories. The new PPN expansion is then used to calculate the monopole term of the post-Newtonian gravitational potential and to perform an analysis of circular orbits within spherically symmetric matter distributions. The latter shows that the behavior does not differ significantly from that of general relativity for realistic values of the MEMe model parameter $q$. Instead the former shows that one can use precision measurements of Newtons constant $G$ to improve the constraint on $q$ by up to $10$ orders of magnitude.
We discuss in a critical way the physical foundations of geometric structure of relativistic theories of gravity by the so-called Ehlers-Pirani-Schild formalism. This approach provides a natural interpretation of the observables showing how relate th em to General Relativity and to a large class of Extended Theories of Gravity. In particular we show that, in such a formalism, geodesic and causal structures of space-time can be safely disentangled allowing a correct analysis in view of observations and experiment. As specific case, we take into account the case of f(R) gravity.
We give an overview of literature related to Jurgen Ehlers pioneering 1981 paper on Frame theory--a theoretical framework for the unification of General Relativity and the equations of classical Newtonian gravitation. This unification encompasses the convergence of one-parametric families of four-dimensional solutions of Einsteins equations of General Relativity to a solution of equations of a Newtonian theory if the inverse of a causality constant goes to zero. As such the corresponding light cones open up and become space-like hypersurfaces of constant absolute time on which Newtonian solutions are found as a limit of the Einsteinian ones. It is explained what it means to not consider the `standard-textbook Newtonian theory of gravitation as a complete theory unlike Einsteins theory of gravitation. In fact, Ehlers Frame theory brings to light a modern viewpoint in which the `standard equations of a self-gravitating Newtonian fluid are Maxwell-type equations. The consequences of Frame theory are presented for Newtonian cosmological dust matter expressed via the spatially projected electric part of the Weyl tensor, and for the formulation of characteristic quasi-Newtonian initial data on the light cone of a Bondi-Sachs metric.
Recently D. Vollick [Phys. Rev. D68, 063510 (2003)] has shown that the inclusion of the 1/R curvature terms in the gravitational action and the use of the Palatini formalism offer an alternative explanation for cosmological acceleration. In this work we show not only that this model of Vollick does not have a good Newtonian limit, but also that any f(R) theory with a pole of order n in R=0 and its second derivative respect to R evaluated at Ro is not zero, where Ro is the scalar curvature of background, does not have a good Newtonian limit.

Screened modified gravity (SMG) is a kind of scalar-tensor theories with screening mechanisms, which can generate screening effect to suppress the fifth force in high density environments and pass the solar system tests. Meanwhile, the potential of s calar field in the theories can drive the acceleration of the late universe. In this paper, we calculate the parameterized post-Newtonian (PPN) parameters $gamma$ and $beta$, the effective gravitational constant $G_{rm eff}$ and the effective cosmological constant $Lambda$ for SMG with a general potential $V$ and coupling function $A$. The dependence of these parameters on the model parameters of SMG and/or the physical properties of the source object are clearly presented. As an application of these results, we focus on three specific theories of SMG (chameleon, symmetron and dilaton models). Using the formulae to calculate their PPN parameters and cosmological constant, we derive the constraints on the model parameters by combining the observations on solar system and cosmological scales.
