We propose AllDiffPrecedence, a new global constraint that combines together an AllDifferent constraint with precedence constraints that strictly order given pairs of variables. We identify a number of applications for this global constraint including instruction scheduling and symmetry breaking. We give an efficient propagation algorithm that enforces bounds consistency on this global constraint. We show how to implement this propagator using a decomposition that extends the bounds consistency enforcing decomposition proposed for the AllDifferent constraint. Finally, we prove that enforcing domain consistency on this global constraint is NP-hard in general.

We study propagation algorithms for the conjunction of two AllDifferent constraints. Solutions of an AllDifferent constraint can be seen as perfect matchings on the variable/value bipartite graph. Therefore, we investigate the problem of finding simu ltaneous bipartite matchings. We present an extension of the famous Hall theorem which characterizes when simultaneous bipartite matchings exists. Unfortunately, finding such matchings is NP-hard in general. However, we prove a surprising result that finding a simultaneous matching on a convex bipartite graph takes just polynomial time. Based on this theoretical result, we provide the first polynomial time bound consistency algorithm for the conjunction of two AllDifferent constraints. We identify a pathological problem on which this propagator is exponentially faster compared to existing propagators. Our experiments show that this new propagator can offer significant benefits over existing methods.
Fractals2019 started as a new experimental entry in the RoboCup Soccer 2D Simulation League, based on Gliders2d code base, and advanced to become a RoboCup-2019 champion. We employ combinatorial optimisation methods, within the framework of Guided Se lf-Organisation, with the search guided by local constraints. We present examples of several tactical tasks based on the Gliders2d code (version v2), including the search for an optimal assignment of heterogeneous player types, as well as blocking behaviours, offside trap, and attacking formations. We propose a new method, Dynamic Constraint Annealing, for solving dynamic constraint satisfaction problems, and apply it to optimise thermodynamic potential of collective behaviours, under dynamically induced constraints.
Stream constraint programming is a recent addition to the family of constraint programming frameworks, where variable domains are sets of infinite streams over finite alphabets. Previous works showed promising results for its applicability to real-wo rld planning and control problems. In this paper, motivated by the modelling of planning applications, we improve the expressiveness of the framework by introducing 1) the until constraint, a new construct that is adapted from Linear Temporal Logic and 2) the @ operator on streams, a syntactic sugar for which we provide a more efficient solving algorithm over simple desugaring. For both constructs, we propose corresponding novel solving algorithms and prove their correctness. We present competitive experimental results on the Missionaries and Cannibals logic puzzle and a standard path planning application on the grid, by comparing with Apt and Brands method for verifying eventuality conditions using a CP approach.
We study decompositions of the global NVALUE constraint. Our main contribution is theoretical: we show that there are propagators for global constraints like NVALUE which decomposition can simulate with the same time complexity but with a much greate r space complexity. This suggests that the benefit of a global propagator may often not be in saving time but in saving space. Our other theoretical contribution is to show for the first time that range consistency can be enforced on NVALUE with the same worst-case time complexity as bound consistency. Finally, the decompositions we study are readily encoded as linear inequalities. We are therefore able to use them in integer linear programs.
The problem of discovering frequent itemsets including rare ones has received a great deal of attention. The mining process needs to be flexible enough to extract frequent and rare regularities at once. On the other hand, it has recently been shown t hat constraint programming is a flexible way to tackle data mining tasks. In this paper, we propose a constraint programming approach for mining itemsets with multiple minimum supports. Our approach provides the user with the possibility to express any kind of constraints on the minimum item supports. An experimental analysis shows the practical effectiveness of our approach compared to the state of the art.
