We have demonstrated the effect of hydrostatic pressure on magnetic and transport properties, and thermal transport properties in electron-doped manganites CaMn$_{1-x}$Sb$_{x}$O$_{3}$. The substitution of Sb$^{5+}$ ion for Mn $^{4+}$site of the parent matrix causes one-electron doping with the chemical formula CaMn$^{4+}_{1-2x}$Mn$^{3+}_{x}$Sb$^{5+}_{x}$O$_{3}$ accompanied by a monotonous increase in unit cell volume as a function of $x$. Upon increasing the doping level of Sb, the magnitudes of both electrical resistivity and negative Seebeck coefficient are suppressed at high temperatures, indicating the electron doping. Anomalous diamagnetic behaviors at $x=0.05$ and 0.08 are clearly observed in field cooled dc magnetization. The effect of hydrostatic pressure on dc magnetization is in contrast to the chemical pressure effect due to Sb doping. The dynamical effect of ac magnetic susceptibility measurement points to the formation of the magnetically frustrated clusters such as FM clusters embedded in canted AFM matrix.

We measured thermal conductivity, k, thermoelectric power, S, and dc electric conductivity, sigma, of La_{5/8-x}Pr_{x}Ca_{3/8}MnO_{3}, showing an intricate interplay between metallic ferromagnetism (FM) and charge ordering (CO) instability. The chang e of k, S and sigma with temperature (T) and x agrees well with the effective medium theories for binary metal-insulator mixtures. This agreement clearly demonstrates that with the variation of T as well as x, the relative volumes of FM and CO phases drastically change and percolative metal-insulator transition occurs in the mixture of FM and CO domains.

We study a simplified model of the electronic structure of compounds of the type of La$_{1-x}$Sr$_x$MnO$_3$. The model represents each Mn$^{4+}$ ion by a spin S=1/2, on which an electron can be added to produce Mn$^{3+}$. We include two strong intrat omic interactions in the Hamiltonian: exchange ($J$% ) and Coulomb ($U$). Finally, to represent the effect of Sr substitution by La in a simple way, we include a distribution of diagonal energies at the Mn sites. Then we use Green function techniques to calculate a mobility edge and the average density of states. We find that according to the amount of disorder and to the concentration of electrons in the system, the Fermi level can cross the mobility edge to produce a metal to insulator transition as the magnetization decreases (increase of temperature). If the disorder is large, the system remains insulating for all concentrations. Concentrations near zero or one favor the insulating state while intermediate values of concentration favor the metallic state.

We report about influence of external pressure on electrical resistivity of EuB5.99C0.01, the compound believed to be intrinsically inhomogeneous due to fluctuation of carbon content. Our results show that the low-temperature resistivity maximum shif ts to lower temperature with applied pressure, opposite to the behavior reported for stoichiometric EuB6. The origin of such qualitative difference we associate with the increasing volume fraction of the phase that is not compatible with ferromagnetic ordering (originating in regions with relatively higher carbon concentratio) with enhancing pressure. Our results support a recent proposition that carbon-rich regions strongly influence magnetotransport properties of carbon-doped EuB6, such as they play a role of spacers, which prevent percolation of ferromagnetic phase.
Narrow-gap higher mobility semiconducting alloys In_{1-x}Mn_{x}Sb were synthesized in polycrystalline form and their magnetic and transport properties have been investigated. Ferromagnetic response in In_{0.98}Mn_{0.02}Sb was detected by the observat ion of clear hysteresis loops up to room temperature in direct magnetization measurements. An unconventional (reentrant) magnetization versus temperature behavior has been found. We explained the observed peculiarities within the frameworks of recent models which suggest that a strong temperature dependence of the carrier density is a crucial parameter determining carrier-mediated ferromagnetism of (III,Mn)V semiconductors. The correlation between magnetic states and transport properties of the sample has been discussed. The contact spectroscopy method is used to investigate a band structure of (InMn)Sb near the Fermi level. Measurements of the degree of charge current spin polarization have been carried out using the point contact Andreev reflection (AR) spectroscopy. The AR data are analyzed by introducing a quasiparticle spectrum broadening, which is likely to be related to magnetic scattering in the contact. The AR spectroscopy data argued that at low temperature the sample is decomposed on metallic ferromagnetic clusters with relatively high spin polarization of charge carriers (up to 65% at 4.2K) within a cluster.
We report measurements and analysis of magnetization, resistivity and thermopower of polycrystalline samples of the perovskite-type Co/Rh oxide La$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$Co$_{1-x}$Rh$_x$O$_{3-delta}$. This system constitutes a solid solution for a full ran ge of $x$,in which the crystal structure changes from rhombohedral to orthorhombic symmetry with increasing Rh content $x$. The magnetization data reveal that the magnetic ground state immediately changes upon Rh substitution from ferromagnetic to paramagnetic with increasing $x$ near 0.25, which is close to the structural phase boundary. We find that one substituted Rh ion diminishes the saturation moment by 9 $mu_B$, which implies that one Rh$^{3+}$ ion makes a few magnetic Co$^{3+}$ ions nonmagnetic (the low spin state), and causes disorder in the spin state and the highest occupied orbital. In this disordered composition ($0.05le x le 0.75$), we find that the thermopower is anomalously enhanced below 50 K. In particular, the thermopower of $x$=0.5 is larger by a factor of 10 than those of $x$=0 and 1, and the temperature coefficient reaches 4 $mu$V/K$^2$ which is as large as that of heavy-fermion materials such as CeRu$_2$Si$_2$.
