In this paper we study nonequilibrium dynamics of one dimensional Bose gas from the general perspective of dynamics of integrable systems. After outlining and critically reviewing methods based on inverse scattering transform, intertwining operators, q-deformed objects, and extended dynamical conformal symmetry, we focus on the form-factor based approach. Motivated by possible applications in nonlinear quantum optics and experiments with ultracold atoms, we concentrate on the regime of strong repulsive interactions. We consider dynamical evolution starting from two initial states: a condensate of particles in a state with zero momentum and a condensate of particles in a gaussian wavepacket in real space. Combining the form-factor approach with the method of intertwining operator we develop a numerical procedure which allows explicit summation over intermediate states and analysis of the time evolution of non-local density-density correlation functions. In both cases we observe a tendency toward formation of crystal-like correlations at intermediate time scales.

Motivated by experiments observing self-organization of cold atoms in optical cavities we investigate the collective dynamics of the associated nonequilibrium Dicke model. The model displays a rich semiclassical phase diagram of long time attractors including distinct superradiant fixed points, bistable and multistable coexistence phases and regimes of persistent oscillations. We explore the intrinsic timescales for reaching these asymptotic states and discuss the implications for finite duration experiments. On the basis of a semiclassical analysis of the effective Dicke model we find that sweep measurements over 200ms may be required in order to access the asymptotic regime. We briefly comment on the corrections that may arise due to quantum fluctuations and states outside of the effective two-level Dicke model description.
The spectral function and dynamic structure factor of bosons interacting by contact repulsion and confined to one dimension exhibit power-law singularities along the dispersion curves of the collective modes. We find the corresponding exponents exact ly, by relating them to the known Bethe ansatz solution of the Lieb-Liniger model. The found exponents vary considerably with the interaction strength and momentum. Remarkably, the Luttinger liquid theory predictions for the exponents fail even at low energies, once the immediate vicinities of the edges are considered.
Describing finite-temperature nonequilibrium dynamics of interacting many-particle systems is a notoriously challenging problem in quantum many-body physics. Here we provide an exact solution to this problem for a system of strongly interacting boson s in one dimension in the Tonks-Girardeau regime of infinitely strong repulsive interactions. Using the Fredholm determinant approach and the Bose-Fermi mapping we show how the problem can be reduced to a single-particle basis, wherein the finite-temperature effects enter the solution via an effective dressing of the single-particle wavefunctions by the Fermi-Dirac occupation factors. We demonstrate the utility of our approach and its computational efficiency in two nontrivial out-of-equilibrium scenarios: collective breathing mode oscillations in a harmonic trap and collisional dynamics in the Newtons cradle setting involving real-time evolution in a periodic Bragg potential.
We study time evolution of Wigner function of an initially interacting one-dimensional quantum gas following the switch-off of the interactions. For the scenario where at $t=0$ the interactions are suddenly suppressed, we derive a relationship betwee n the dynamical Wigner function and its initial value. A two-particle system initially interacting through two different interactions of Dirac delta type is examined. For a system of particles that is suddenly let to move ballistically (without interactions) in a harmonic trap in d dimensions, and using time evolution of one-body density matrix, we derive a relationship between the time dependent Wigner function and its initial value. Using the inverse Wigner transform we obtain, for an initially harmonically trapped noninteracting particles in $d$ dimensions, the scaling law satisfied by the density matrix at time $t$ after a sudden change of the trapping frequency. Finally, the effects of interactions are analyzed in the dynamical Wigner function.

Using a species-selective dipole potential, we create initially localized impurities and investigate their interactions with a majority species of bosonic atoms in a one-dimensional configuration during expansion. We find an interaction-dependent amp litude reduction of the oscillation of the impurities size with no measurable frequency shift, and study it as a function of the interaction strength. We discuss possible theoretical interpretations of the data. We compare, in particular, with a polaronic mass shift model derived following Feynman variational approach.
