تُعتَبَر منهجية تحليل نمط العطل و آثاره (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA واحدة من أشهر إجراءات ضمان جودة و وثوقية المنتجات و الأنظمة و إجرائيات التصنيع.
تعاني آلية تقيّيم وترتيب خطورة أنماط الأعطال المتبعة في FMEA من الكثير من العيوب، وتشكّل محط انتقاد العديد من الباحثين.
