We describe the electromagnetic calorimeter built for the GRAAL apparatus at the ESRF. Its monitoring system is presented in detail. Results from tests and the performance obtained during the first GRAAL experiments are given. The energy calibration accuracy and stability reached is a small fraction of the intrinsic detector resolution.

A BGO electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) is built for the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) mission. The effect of temperature on the BGO ECAL was investigated with a thermal vacuum experiment. The light output of a BGO crystal depends on tempera ture significantly. The temperature coefficient of each BGO crystal bar has been calibrated, and a correction method is also presented in this paper.
This article describes the design, construction and use of a calibration and monitoring system, based on movable 137Cs gamma-ray sources, for the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter (TileCal). The sources, propelled by a water-based liquid through tubes that trav erse all the calorimeters cells, produce signals that precisely characterise the response of each tile, thereby providing very granular and accurate data on the response of TileCal to particles. The system has been used to guide and control the quality of the optical instrumentation of all TileCal modules, to set and equalise the dynamic range of the response to physics data, and to set the energy scale of the readout system. In the ATLAS cavern, periodic measurements of the whole detectors response to 137Cs sources allow monitoring the uniformity and stability of all the calorimeters cells as well as maintaining precise knowledge of its energy calibration. The design of the source hydraulic drive systems hardware and software, the data acquisition system and the data processing algorithms are described. Finally, the results of this two-decade program are shown.
This paper presents results obtained with the combined CALICE Scintillator Electromagnetic Calorimeter, Analogue Hadronic Calorimeter and Tail Catcher & Muon Tracker, three high granularity scintillator-SiPM calorimeter prototypes. The response of th e system to pions with momenta between 4 GeV/c and 32 GeV/c is analysed, including the energy response, resolution, and longitudinal shower profiles. The results of a software compensation technique based on weighting according to hit energy are compared to those of a standard linear energy reconstruction. The results are compared to predictions of the GEANT4 physics lists QGSP_BERT_HP and FTFP_BERT_HP.
An onboard calibration circuit has been designed for the front-end electronics (FEE) of DAMPE BGO Calorimeter. It is mainly composed of a 12 bit DAC, an operation amplifier and an analog switch. Test results showed that a dynamic range of 0 ~ 30 pC w ith a precision of 5 fC was achieved, which meets the requirements of the front-end electronics. Furthermore, it is used to test the trigger function of the FEEs. The calibration circuit has been implemented and verified by all the environmental tests for both Qualification Model and Flight Model of DAMPE. The DAMPE satellite will be launched at the end of 2015 and the calibration circuit will perform onboard calibration in space.
The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) is a space experiment designed to search for dark matter indirectly by measuring the spectra of photons, electrons, and positrons up to 10 TeV. The BGO electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) is its main sub-detec tor for energy measurement. In this paper, the instrumentation and development of the BGO ECAL is briefly described. The calibration on the ground, including the pedestal, minimum ionizing particle (MIP) peak, dynode ratio, and attenuation length with the cosmic rays and beam particles is discussed in detail. Also, the energy reconstruction results of the electrons from the beam test are presented.
