Cross sections of the $^{186}$W, $^{187}$Re, $^{188}$Os($gamma,n$) reactions were measured using quasi-monochromatic photon beams from laser Compton scattering (LCS) with average energies from 7.3 to 10.9 MeV. The results are compared with the predictions of Hauser-Feshbach statistical calculations using four different sets of input parameters. In addition, the inverse neutron capture cross sections were evaluated by constraining the model parameters, especially the $E1$ strength function, on the basis of the experimental data. The present experiment helps to further constrain the correction factor $F_{sigma}$ for the neutron capture on the 9.75 keV state in $^{187}$Os. Implications of $F_{sigma}$ to the Re-Os cosmochronology are discussed with a focus on the uncertainty in the estimate of the age of the Galaxy.

The hyperfine splitting of the 5g -> 4f transitions in muonic 185,187-Re has been measured using high resolution HPGe detectors and compared to state-of-the-art atomic theoretical predictions. The spectroscopic quadrupole moment has been extracted us ing modern fitting procedures and compared to the values available in literature obtained from muonic X rays of natural rhenium. The extracted values of the nuclear spectroscopic quadrupole moment are 2.07(5) barn and 1.94(5) barn, respectively for 185-Re and 187-Re. This work is part of a larger effort at the Paul Scherrer Institut towards the measurement of the nuclear charge radii of radioactive elements.
Short-lived radionuclides (SLRs) with half-lives less than 100 Myr are known to have existed around the time of the formation of the solar system around 4.5 billion years ago. Understanding the production sources for SLRs is important for improving o ur understanding of processes taking place just after solar system formation as well as their timescales. Early solar system models rely heavily on calculations from nuclear theory due to a lack of experimental data for the nuclear reactions taking place. In 2013, Bowers et al. measured ${}^{36}$Cl production cross sections via the ${}^{33}$S($alpha$,p) reaction and reported cross sections that were systematically higher than predicted by Hauser-Feshbach codes. Soon after, a paper by Peter Mohr highlighted the challenges the new data would pose to current nuclear theory if verified. The ${}^{33}$S($alpha$,p)${}^{36}$Cl reaction was re-measured at 5 energies between 0.78 MeV/A and 1.52 MeV/A, in the same range as measured by Bowers et al., and found systematically lower cross sections than originally reported, with the new results in good agreement with the Hauser-Feshbach code TALYS. Loss of Cl carrier in chemical extraction and errors in determination of reaction energy ranges are both possible explanations for artificially inflated cross sections measured in the previous work.

The cyclotron frequency ratio of $^{187}mathrm{Os}^{29+}$ to $^{187}mathrm{Re}^{29+}$ ions was measured with the Penning-trap mass spectrometer PENTATRAP. The achieved result of $R=1.000:000:013:882(5)$ is to date the most precise such measurement pe rformed on ions. Furthermore, the total binding-energy difference of the 29 missing electrons in Re and Os was calculated by relativistic multiconfiguration methods, yielding the value of $Delta E = 53.5(10)$ eV. Finally, using the achieved results, the mass difference between neutral $^{187}$Re and $^{187}$Os, i.e., the $Q$ value of the $beta^-$ decay of $^{187}$Re, is determined to be 2470.9(13) eV.

The alpha decays of naturally occurring platinum isotopes, which are accompanied by the emission of gamma quanta, have been searched for deep underground (3600 m w.e.) in the Gran Sasso National Laboratories of the INFN (Italy). A sample of Pt with m ass of 42.5 g and a natural isotopic composition has been measured with a low background HP Ge detector (468 cm^3) during 1815 h. The alpha decay of 190-Pt to the first excited level of 186-Os (J^pi = 2^+, E_{exc}=137.2 keV) has been observed for the first time, with the half-life determined as: T_{1/2} = 2.6_{-0.3}^{+0.4} (stat.) pm 0.6 (syst.) times 10^{14} yr. The T_{1/2} limits for the alpha decays of other Pt isotopes have been determined at level of T_{1/2} simeq 10^{16}-10^{20} yr. These limits have been set for the first time or they are better than those known from earlier experiments.

Over the past several years, parton distribution functions (PDFs) have become more precise. However there are still kinematic regions where more data are needed to help constrain global PDF extractions, such as the ratio of the sea quark distribution s $bar{d}$/$bar{u}$ near the valence region. Furthermore, current measurements appear to suggest different high-$x$ behaviors of this ratio. The $W$ cross section ratio ($W^+$/$W^-$) is sensitive to the unpolarized quark distributions at large $Q^2$ set by the $W$ mass. Such a measurement can be used to help constrain the $bar{d}$/$bar{u}$ ratio. The STAR experiment at RHIC is well equipped to measure the leptonic decays of $W$ bosons, in the mid-pseudorapdity range $left(|eta| leq 1 right)$, produced in proton-proton collisions at $sqrt{s}$ = 500/510 GeV. At these kinematics STAR is sensitive to quark distributions near $x$ of 0.16. STAR can also measure $W^+$/$W^-$ in a more forward region ranging from 1.0 $< eta <$1.5, which extends the sea quark sensitivity to higher $x$. RHIC runs from 2011 through 2013 have collected about 350 pb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, and an additional 350 pb$^{-1}$ from the 2017 run. These proceedings will present preliminary results of the 2011-2013 $W^+$/$W^-$ cross section ratio measurements. Additionally, the $W/Z$ cross section ratio, differential and total $W$ and $Z$ cross sections are presented.
