We present a non-perturbative QCD calculation of high-energy diffractive photo- and leptoproduction of vector mesons $rho$, $rho$ and $rho$ on a nucleon. The initial photon splits up in a $qbar{q}$-dipole and transforms into a vector meson by scatter ing on the quark-diquark nucleon. The dipole-dipole scattering amplitude is provided by the non-perturbative model of the stochastic QCD vacuum, the wave functions result from considerations on the light-cone. We assume the physical $rho$- and $rho$-states to be mixed states of an active 2S-excitation and a rest whose coupling to the photon is suppressed. We obtain good agreement with the experimental data and get an understanding of the markedly different spectrum in the $pi^+pi^-$-invariant mass for photoproduction and $e^+e^-$-annihilation.

Measurements sensitive to the structure of both real and virtual photons are presented and compared to theoretical models with various photon parton distribution functions (PDFs). Measurements for real photons show a tendency for the available photon PDFs to be too small to describe the data. For virtual photons, the photon PDF is seen to decrease with increasing photon virtuality. In order to describe the data, resolved photon processes are required up to a photon virtuality of at least 4.5 GeV^2.
The leading-order process for the production of a Z boson and a heavy-quark jet at hadron colliders is gQ -> ZQ (Q=c,b). We calculate this cross section at next-to-leading order at the Tevatron and the LHC, and compare it with other sources of ZQ eve nts. This process is a background to new physics, and can be used to measure the heavy-quark distribution function.
Photoproduction of beauty and charm quarks in events with at least two jets has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 133 $pb^{-1}$. The fractions of jets containing b and c quarks were extracted using the inv ariant mass of charged tracks associated with secondary vertices and the decay-length significance of these vertices. Differential cross sections as a function of jet transverse momentum, $p_{T}^{text{jet}}$, and pseudorapidity, $eta^{text{jet}}$, were measured. The data are compared with previous measurements and are well described by next-to-leading-order QCD predictions.
