The inclusive production cross sections of the strange vector mesons K*0, K*0bar, and phi have been measured in interactions of 920 GeV protons with C, Ti, and W targets with the HERA-B detector at the HERA storage ring. Differential cross sections as a function of rapidity and transverse momentum have been measured in the central rapidity region and for transverse momenta up to pT=3.5 GeV/c. The atomic number dependence is parametrised as sigma(pA) = sigma(pN)*A**alpha, where sigma(pN) is the proton-nucleon cross section. Within the phase space accessible, alpha(K*0) = 0.86+/-0.03, alpha(K*0bar) = 0.87+/-0.03, and alpha(phi) = 0.96+/-0.02. The total proton-nucleon cross sections, determined by extrapolating the differential measurements to full phase space, are sigma(pN->K*0) = 5.06+/-0.54 mb, sigma(pN->K*0bar) = 4.02+/-0.45 mb, and sigma(pN->phi) = 1.17+/-0.11 mb. The Cronin effect is observed for the first time for vector mesons containing strange quarks; compared to the measurements of Cronin et al. for K+- mesons, the measured values of alpha for phi mesons coincide with those of K- mesons for all transverse momenta, while the enhancement for K*0 / K*0bar mesons is smaller.

The production of K^+ mesons in pA (A = D, C, Cu, Ag, Au) collisions has been investigated at the COoler SYnchrotron COSY-Julich for beam energies T_p = 1.0 - 2.3 GeV. Double differential inclusive pC cross sections at forward angles theta < 12 degre es as well as the target-mass dependence of the K^+ momentum spectra have been measured with the ANKE spectrometer. Far below the free NN threshold at T_{NN}=1.58 GeV the spectra reveal a high degree of collectivity in the target nucleus. From the target-mass dependence of the cross sections at higher energies, the repulsive in-medium potential of K^+ mesons can be deduced. Using pN cross-section parameterisations from literature and our measured pD data we derive a cross-section ratio of sigma(pn -> K^+ X) / sigma(pp -> K^+ X) ~ (3-4).
The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has measured the differential cross section of $phi$(1020)-meson production at forward rapidity in $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $sqrt{s}=$510 GeV via the dimuon decay channel. The partial cross section in the rapidity and $p_T$ ranges $1.2<|y|<2.2$ and $2<p_T<7$ GeV/$c$ is $sigma_phi=[2.28 pm 0.09,{rm (stat)} pm 0.14,{rm (syst)} pm 0.27, {rm (norm)}] times 10^{-2}$~mb. The energy dependence of $sigma_phi$ ($1.2<|y|<2.2, ; 2<p_T<5$ GeV/$c$) is studied using the PHENIX measurements at $sqrt{s}=$200 and 510 GeV and the Large-Hadron-Collider measurements at $sqrt{s}=$2.76 and 7 TeV. The experimental results are compared to various event generator predictions ({sc pythia6, pythia8, phojet, ampt, epos3,} and {sc epos-lhc}).
The total cross section of the reaction $ppto ppK^+K^-$ has been determined for proton--proton reactions with $p_{beam}=3.67 GeV/c$. This represents the first cross section measurement of the $pp to ppK^-K^+$ channel near threshold, and is equivalent to the inclusive $ppto ppK^-X$ cross section at this beam momentum. The cross section determined at this beam momentum is about a factor 20 lower than that for inclusive $ppto ppK^+X$ meson production at the same CM energy above the corresponding threshold. This large difference in the $K^+$ and $K^-$ meson inclusive production cross sections in proton-proton reactions is in strong contrast to cross sections measured in sub-threshold heavy ion collisions, which are similar in magnitude at the same energy per nucleon below the respective thresholds.

Transverse single spin asymmetry, $A_{N}$, of very forward $pi^{0}$ production from polarized $p + p$ collisions provides new information toward an understanding of its production mechanism. $A_{N}$ of forward $pi^{0}$ in the pseudorapidity region of $3 < eta < 4$ has been described by the partonic structure of the proton in the perturbative QCD framework. However, recent data indicates a potential contribution from not only partonic but also diffractive interactions. In order to provide a new insight on the origin of the $A_{N}$, we measured the very forward $pi^{0}$ production in the pseudorapidity region of $6 < eta$ from $sqrt{s}$ = 510 GeV polarized $p + p$ collisions at RHIC in 2017. We report our measurement of the very forward $pi^{0}$ over the transverse momentum range of $0 < p_{T} < 1$ GeV/$c$ and the preliminary result.
The PHENIX experiment has measured $phi$ meson production in $d$$+$Au collisions at $sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV using the dimuon and dielectron decay channels. The $phi$ meson is measured in the forward (backward) $d$-going (Au-going) direction, $1.2<y <2.2$ ($-2.2<y<-1.2$) in the transverse-momentum ($p_T$) range from 1--7 GeV/$c$, and at midrapidity $|y|<0.35$ in the $p_T$ range below 7 GeV/$c$. The $phi$ meson invariant yields and nuclear-modification factors as a function of $p_T$, rapidity, and centrality are reported. An enhancement of $phi$ meson production is observed in the Au-going direction, while suppression is seen in the $d$-going direction, and no modification is observed at midrapidity relative to the yield in $p$$+$$p$ collisions scaled by the number of binary collisions. Similar behavior was previously observed for inclusive charged hadrons and open heavy flavor indicating similar cold-nuclear-matter effects.
