The method of extraction of the e/h ratio for an electromagnetic compartment of a combined calorimeter is suggested and the non-compensation was determined. The results agree with the Monte Carlo prediction and results of the weighting method for ele
ctromagnetic compartment of combined calorimeter. The new easy method of a hadronic energy reconstruction for a combined calorimeter is also suggested. The proposed methods can be used for a combined calorimeter, which is being designed to perform energy measurement in a next-generation high energy collider experiment like ATLAS at LHC.
The detailed information about electron response, electron energy resolution and e/h ratio as a function of incident energy E, impact point Z and incidence angle $Theta$ of iron-scintillator hadron prototype calorimeter with longitudinal tile configu
ration is presented. These results are based on electron and pion beams data of E = 20, 50, 100, 150, 300 GeV at $Theta = 10^o, 20^o, 30^o$, which were obtained during test beam period in July 1995. The obtained calibration constant is used for muon response converting from pC to GeV. The results are compared with existing experimental data and with some Monte Carlo calculations.
The ATLAS hadronic Tile Calorimeter will undergo major upgrades to the on- and off-detector electronics in preparation for the High Luminosity program of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) in 2026, so that the system can cope with the HL-LHC increase
d radiation levels and out-of-time pileup. The on-detector electronics of the upgraded system will continuously digitize and transmit all photo-multiplier signals to the off-detector systems at a 40 MHz rate. The off-detector electronics will store the data in pipeline buffers, produce digital hadronic tower sums for the ATLAS Level-0 trigger system, and read out selected events. The modular on-detector electronics feature radiation-tolerant commercial off-the-shelf components and redundant design to minimize single points of failure. The timing, control and communication interface with the off-detector electronics is implemented with modern Field Programmable Gate Arrays and high speed fibre optic links running up to 9.6 Gbps.
The new simple method of the energy reconstruction for a combined calorimeter, which we called the e/h method, is suggested. It uses only the known e/h ratios and the electron calibration constants and does not require the determination of any parame
ters by a minimization technique. The method has been tested on the basis of the 1996 test beam data of the combined calorimeter and demonstrated the correctness of the reconstruction of the mean values of energies. The obtained fractional energy resolution is $[(58pm3)%/sqrt{E}+(2.5pm0.3)%]oplus (1.7pm0.2)/E$. This algorithm can be used for the fast energy reconstruction in the first level trigger.
The lateral and longitudinal profiles of the hadronic showers detected by iron-scintillator tile hadron calorimeter with longitudinal tile configuration have been investigated. The results are based on 100 GeV pion beam data. Due to the beam scan pro
vided many different beam impact locations with cells it is succeeded to obtain detailed picture of transverse shower behavior. The underlying radial energy densities for four depths and for overall calorimeter have been reconstructed. The three-dimensional hadronic shower parametrisation have been suggested.
