A pressure and temperature dependent Raman study of the vibrational and spin dynamics in CuGeO3 is presented. A new low temperature, high pressure phase has been identified, and a pressure-temperature phase-diagram is proposed for CuGeO3. The pressure dependence of the effective exchange interaction, of the spin-Peierls gap, and of the spin-Peierls temperature strongly supports a model in which next nearest neighbor interactions stabilise the SP ground state. The Raman data allow for a quantitative estimate of the pressure dependence of the next nearest neighbor interactions.

Electrical resistivity and ac-susceptibility measurements under high pressure were carried out in high-quality single crystals of $alpha$-Mn. The pressure-temperature phase diagram consists of an antiferromagnetic ordered phase (0<$P$<1.4 GPa, $T<T_{ rm N}$), a pressure-induced ordered phase (1.4<$P$<4.2-4.4 GPa, $T<T_{rm A}$), and a paramagnetic phase. A significant increase was observed in the temperature dependence of ac-susceptibility at $T_{rm A}$, indicating that the pressure-induced ordered phase has a spontaneous magnetic moment. Ferrimagnetic order and parasitic ferromagnetism are proposed as candidates for a possible magnetic structure. At the critical pressure, where the pressure-induced ordered phase disappears, the temperature dependence of the resistivity below 10 K is proportional to $T^{5/3}$. This non-Fermi liquid behavior suggests the presence of pronounced magnetic fluctuation.
BaBiO3 is a well-known example of a 3D charge density wavecompound, in which the CDW behavior is induced by charge disproportionation at the Bi site. At ambient pressure, this compound is a charge-ordered insulator, but little is known about its high -pressure behavior. In this work, we study from first-principles the high-pressure phase diagram of BaBiO3 using phonon modes analysis and evolutionary crystal structure prediction. We show that charge disproportionation is very robust in this compound and persists up to 100 GPa. This causes the system to remain insulating up to the highest pressure we studied.
We observe how the charge-ordering (CO) temperature of Nd1/2Sr1/2MnO3 decreases with the external pressure p from 160 K at p = 0 down to 30 K at p ~ 4.5 GPa, by measuring the values p, T where the far-infrared spectral weight of the metallic phase is fully recovered. We thus determine the (p, T) phase diagram of CO in that manganite. We also find that the parameter d(lnTCO)/dp which describes this metallization from the CO phase is equal and opposite to the quantity d(lnTc)/dp which governs the metallization of the paramagnetic state at comparable Curie temperatures Tc, in similar manganites at half doping.
Using muon spin spectroscopy we have found that, for both Na$_x$CoO$_2$ (0.6 $leq x leq$ 0.9) and 3- and 4-layer cobaltites, a common low temperature magnetic state (which in some cases is manifest as an incommensurate spin density wave) forms in the CoO$_2$ planes. Here we summarize those results and report a dome-shaped relation between the transition temperature into the low-$T$ magnetic state and the composition $x$ for Na$_x$CoO$_2$ and/or the high-temperature asymptotic limit of thermopower in the more complex 3- and 4-layer cobaltites. This behavior is explained using the Hubbard model on two-dimensional triangular lattice in the CoO$_2$ plane.

High-quality single crystals of CoTiO$_3$ are grown and used to elucidate in detail structural and magnetostructural effects by means of high-resolution capacitance dilatometry studies in fields up to 15 T which are complemented by specific heat and magnetization measurements. In addition, we refine the single-crystal structure of the ilmenite ($Rbar{3}$) phase. At the antiferromagnetic ordering temperature $T_mathrm{N}$, pronounced $lambda$-shaped anomaly in the thermal expansion coefficients signals shrinking of both the $c$ and $b$ axes, indicating strong magnetoelastic coupling with uniaxial pressure along $c$ yielding six times larger effect on $T_mathrm{N}$ than the pressure applied in-plane. The hydrostatic pressure dependency derived by means of Gruneisen analysis amounts to $partial T_mathrm{N}/ partial papprox 2.7(4)$~K/GPa. The high-field magnetization studies in static and pulsed magnetic fields up to 60~T along with high-field thermal expansion measurements facilitate in constructing the complete anisotropic magnetic phase diagram of CoTiO$_3$. While the results confirm the presence of significant magnetodielectric coupling, our data show that magnetism drives the observed structural, dielectric, and magnetic changes both in the short-range ordered regime well-above $T_mathrm{N}$ as well as in the long-range magnetically ordered phase.
