Enhanced (001) anomalous scattering by YBa2Cu3O7-d 50 nm films on SrTiO3 substrates with and without a grain boundary versus temperature is interpreted using crystallographic weights to distinguish it from total electron yield and fluorescence spectra. The power of diffraction enhancement is to ascertain the film oxygen composition from the changes in the c-axis, c0 as the film surface is scanned across the grain boundary, and to determine that c0 is constant versus temperature across the superconducting phase transition.

A new phase is detected within 100micrometers of 24 DEG ab grain boundary (GB) in YBa2Cu3O7-d 50 nm films on SrTiO3 by enhanced (001) anomalous scattering. Site identification and temperature dependence is interpreted using crystallographic weights t o distinguish enhanced scattering from total electron yield and fluorescence spectra. The c-axis, c0 indicates that only ortho-I phase is present far from GB, both ortho-I and II phases are present near GB. The phase c0 is constant versus temperature across the transition to superconductivity.

Motivated by the recent contradiction of the superconducting pairing symmetry in the angle-resolved photoemission spectra (ARPES) and the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data in the FeAs superconductors, we present the theoretical results on the pha se diagram, the temperature dependent Fermi surfaces in normal state, the ARPES character of quasiparticles and the spin-lattice relaxation 1/T$_{1}$ of the two-orbital t-t$^{}$-J-J$^{}$ models. Our results show that most of the properties observed in iron-based superconductors could be comprehensively understood in the present scenario qualitatively, indicating that the pairing symmetry of the ironpnictides is anisotropic nodeless s-wave, mainly originating from the band structures and the Fermi surface topology.
Results of resistivity, Hall effect, magnetoresistance, susceptibility and heat capacity measurements are presented for single crystals of indium-doped tin telluride with compositions Sn$_{.988-x}$In$_x$Te where $0 leq x leq 8.4 %$, along with micros tructural analysis based on transmission electron microscopy. For small indium concentrations, $x leq 0.9 %$ the material does not superconduct above 0.3 K, and the transport properties are consistent with simple metallic behavior. For $x geq 2.7 %$ the material exhibits anomalous low temperature scattering and for $x geq 6.1 %$ bulk superconductivity is observed with critical temperatures close to 2 K. Intermediate indium concentrations $2.7% leq x leq 3.8%$ do not exhibit bulk superconductivity above 0.7 K. Susceptibility data indicate the absence of magnetic impurities, while magnetoresistance data are inconsistent with localization effects, leading to the conclusion that indium-doped SnTe is a candidate charge Kondo system, similar to thallium-doped PbTe.

The recently discovered layered BiS2-based superconductors have attracted a great deal of interest due to their structural similarity to cuprate and iron-pnictide superconductors. We have performed Raman scattering measurements on two superconducting crystals NdO0.5F0.5BiS2 (Tc = 4.5 K) and NdO0.7F0.3BiS2 (Tc = 4.8 K). The observed Raman phonon modes are assigned with the aid of first-principles calculations. The asymmetrical phonon mode around 118 cm-1 reveals a small electron-phonon (e-ph) coupling constant 0.16, which is insufficient to generate superconductivity at ~ 4.5 K. In the Raman spectra there exists a clear temperature-dependent hump around 100 cm-1, which can be well understood in term of inter-band vertical transitions around Fermi surface. The transitions get boosted when the particular rectangular-like Fermi surface meets band splitting caused by spin-orbit coupling. It enables a unique and quantitative insight into the band splitting.
The study of subtle effects on transport in semiconductors requires high-quality epitaxial structures with low defect density. Using hybrid molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), SrTiO$_3$ films with low-temperature mobility exceeding 42,000 cm$^2$V$^{-1}$s$^ {-1}$ at low carrier density of 3 x 10$^{17}$ cm$^{-3}$ were achieved. A sudden and sharp decrease in residual resistivity accompanied by an enhancement in the superconducting transition temperature were observed across the second Lifshitz transition (LT) where the third band becomes occupied, revealing dominant intra-band scattering. These films further revealed an anomalous behavior in the Hall carrier density as a consequence of the antiferrodistortive (AFD) transition and the temperature-dependence of the Hall scattering factor. Using hybrid MBE growth, phenomenological modeling, temperature-dependent transport measurements, and scanning superconducting quantum interference device imaging, we provide critical insights into the important role of inter- vs intra-band scattering and of AFD domain walls on normal-state and superconducting properties of SrTiO$_3$.
