We present the experimental evidence of giant optical anisotropy in single InAs quantum dots. Polarization-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy reveals a linear polarization ratio with huge fluctuations, from one quantum dot to another, in sign and in magnitude with absolute values up to 82%. Systematic measurements on hundreds of quantum dots coming from two different laboratories demonstrate that the giant optical anisotropy is an intrinsic feature of dilute quantum-dot arrays.
We report on the dynamic nuclear polarization of a single charge-tunable self-assembled InAs/GaAs quantum dot in a longitudinal magnetic field of $sim$0.2T. The hyperfine interaction between the optically oriented electron and nuclei spins leads to t
Anisotropy of spin-orbit interaction (SOI) is studied for a single uncapped InAs self-assembled quantum dot (SAQD) holding just a few electrons. The SOI energy is evaluated from anti-crossing or SOI induced hybridization between the ground and excite
We show that the spins of all electrons, each confined in a quantum dot of an (In,Ga)As/GaAs dot ensemble, can be driven into a single mode of precession about a magnetic field. This regime is achieved by allowing only a single mode within the electr
We have demonstrated experimentally the manipulation of exciton and nuclear spins in a single self-assembled In$_{0.75}$Al$_{0.25}$As/Al$_{0.3}$Ga$_{0.7}$As quantum dot. The oscillation of exciton and nuclear spin polarizations were clearly observed.
Motional narrowing refers to the striking phenomenon where the resonance line of a system coupled to a reservoir becomes narrower when increasing the reservoir fluctuation. A textbook example is found in nuclear magnetic resonance, where the fluctuat
