We report measurements of the phonon dispersion relations in non-superconducting, oxygen-deficient PrBa2Cu3O6+x (x ~ 0.2) by inelastic neutron scattering. The data are compared with a model of the lattice dynamics based on a common interaction potential. Good agreement is achieved for all but two phonon branches, which are significantly softer than predicted. These modes are found to arise predominantly from motion of the oxygen ions in the CuO2 planes. Analogous modes in YBa2Cu3O6 are well described by the common interaction potential model.
Superconducting MgB$_2$ shows an E$_{2g}$ zone center phonon, as measured by Raman spectroscopy, that is very broad in energy and temperature dependent. The Raman shift and lifetime show large differences with the values elsewhere in the Brillouin Zo
Charge density wave (CDW) correlations are prevalent in all copper-oxide superconductors. While CDWs in conventional metals are driven by coupling between lattice vibrations and electrons, the role of the electron-phonon coupling (EPC) in cuprate CDW
This paper describes high-energy neutron inelastic scattering measurements of propagating magnetic excitations in PrBa2Cu3O6+x (x approx 0.2 and 0.93). The measurements probe the acoustic and optic modes of the antiferromagnetically-ordered copper--o
We have investigated the pressure effect on the newly discovered samarium doped La1-xSmxO0.5F0.5BiS2 superconductors. More than threefold increase in Tc (10.3 K) is observed with external pressure (at ~1.74 GPa at a rate of 4.08 K/GPa)) for x = 0.2 c
We report measurements of the phonon density-of-states in iron oxypnictide superconductors by inelastic x-ray scattering. A good agreement with ab-initio calculations that do not take into account strong electronic correlations is found, and an unpre
