The electronic transport of a noninteracting quantum ring side-coupled to a quantum wire is studied via a single-band tunneling tight-binding Hamiltonian. We found that the system develops an oscillating band with antiresonances and resonances arising from the hybridization of the quasibound levels of the ring and the coupling to the quantum wire. The positions of the antiresonances correspond exactly to the electronic spectrum of the isolated ring. Moreover, for a uniform quantum ring the conductance and the persistent current density were found to exhibit a particular odd-even parity related with the ring-order. The effects of an in-plane electric field was also studied. This field shifts the electronic spectrum and damps the amplitude of the persistent current density. These features may be used to control externally the energy spectra and the amplitude of the persistent current.

The electronic transport in a system of two quantum rings side-coupled to a quantum wire is studied via a single-band tunneling tight-binding Hamiltonian. We derived analytical expressions for the conductance and spin polarization when the rings are threaded by magnetic fluxes with Rashba spin-orbit interaction. We show that by using the Fano and Dicke effects this system can be used as an efficient spin-filter even for small spin orbit interaction and small values of magnetic flux. We compare the spin-dependent polarization of this design and the polarization obtained with one ring side coupled to a quantum ring. As a main result, we find better spin polarization capabilities as compared to the one ring design
A system of an array of side-coupled quantum-dots attached to a quantum wire is studied theoretically. Transport through the quantum wire is investigated by means of a noninteracting Anderson tunneling Hamiltonian. Analytical expressions of the trans mission probability and phase are given. The transmission probability shows an energy spectrum with forbidden and allowed bands that depends on the up-down asymmetry of the system. In up-down symmetry only the gap survives, and in up-down asymmetry an allowed band is formed. We show that the allowed band arises by the indirect coupling between the up and down quantum dots. In addition, the band edges can be controlled by the degree of asymmetry of the quantum dots. We discuss the analogy between this phenomenon with the Dicke effect in optics.
In this work, we investigate the spectra in an Aharonov-Bohm quantum-ring interferometer forming a Josephson junction between two topological superconductors (TSC) nanowires. The TSCs host Majorana bound states at their edges, and both the magnetic f lux and the superconducting phase difference between the TSCs are used as control parameters. We use a tight-binding approach to model the quantum ring coupled to both TSCs, described by the Kitaev effective Hamiltonian. We solve the problem by means of exact numerical diagonalization of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) Hamiltonian and obtain the spectra for two sizes of the quantum ring as a function of the magnetic flux and the phase difference between the TSCs. Depending on the size of the quantum ring and the coupling, the spectra display several patterns. Those are denoted as line, point and undulated nodes, together with flat bands, which are topologically protected. The first three patterns can be possibly detected by means of persistent and Josephson currents. Hence, our results could be useful to understand the spectra and their relation with the behavior of the current signals.
A scanning tunnelling microscope is used to pull a polythiophene wire from a Au(111) surface while measuring the current traversing the junction. Abrupt current increases measured during the lifting procedure are associated to the detachment of molec ular sub-units, in apparent contradiction with the expected exponential decrease of the conductance with wire length. textit{Ab initio} simulations reproduce the experimental data and demonstrate that this unexpected behavior is due to release of mechanical stress in the wire, paving the way to mechanically gated single-molecule electronic devices.

We consider a one-channel coherent conductor with a good transmission embedded into an ohmic environment whose impedance is equal to the quantum of resistance R_q=h/e^2 below the RC frequency. This choice is motivated by the mapping of this problem t o a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid with one impurity whose interaction parameter corresponds to the specific value K=1/2, allowing for a refermionization procedure. The new fermions have an energy-dependent transmission amplitude which incorporates the strong correlation effects and yields the exact dc current and zero-frequency noise through expressions similar to those of the scattering approach. We recall and discuss these results for our present purpose. Then we compute, for the first time, the finite-frequency differential conductance and the finite-frequency non-symmetrized noise. Contrary to intuitive expectation, both cannot be expressed within the scattering approach for the new fermions, even though they are still determined by the transmission amplitude. Even more, the finite-frequency conductance obeys an exact relation in terms of the dc current which is similar to that derived perturbatively with respect to weak tunneling within the Tien-Gordon theory, and extended recently to arbitrary strongly interacting systems coupled eventually to an environment or/and with a fractional charge. We also show that the emission excess noise vanishes exactly above eV, even though the underlying Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid model corresponds to a many-body correlated system. Our results apply for all ranges of temperature, voltages and frequencies below the RC frequency, and they allow to explore fully the quantum regime.
