We analyze a class of piecewise linear parabolic maps on the torus, namely those obtained by considering a linear map with double eigenvalue one and taking modulo one in each component. We show that within this two parameter family of maps, the set of noninvertible maps is open and dense. For cases where the entries in the matrix are rational we show that the maximal invariant set has positive Lebesgue measure and we give bounds on the measure. For several examples we find expressions for the measure of the invariant set but we leave open the question as to whether there are parameters for which this measure is zero.
In this paper, we show that for exact area-preserving twist maps on annulus, the invariant circles with a given rotation number can be destroyed by arbitrarily small Gevrey-$alpha$ perturbations of the integrable generating function in the $C^r$ topology with $r<4-frac{2}{alpha}$, where $alpha>1$.
We prove that any $C^{1+BV}$ degree $d geq 2$ circle covering $h$ having all periodic orbits weakly expanding, is conjugate in the same smoothness class to a metrically expanding map. We use this to connect the space of parabolic external maps (comin
We propose to compute approximations to general invariant sets in dynamical systems by minimizing the distance between an appropriately selected finite set of points and its image under the dynamics. We demonstrate, through computational experiments
We provide an abstract framework for the study of certain spectral properties of parabolic systems; specifically, we determine under which general conditions to expect the presence of absolutely continuous spectral measures. We use these general cond
We show how the existence of three objects, $Omega_{rm trap}$, ${bf W}$, and $C$, for a continuous piecewise-linear map $f$ on $mathbb{R}^N$, implies that $f$ has a topological attractor with a positive Lyapunov exponent. First, $Omega_{rm trap} subs
