We present CCD photometry for the Galactic globular cluster NGC 4833. Our BVI color magnitude diagrams (CMD) extend from above the red giant branch (RGB) tip to several magnitudes below the main sequence turnoff. The principal sequences of the cluster show the effects of differential reddening. We have created a local extinction map, consistent with IRAS and COBE/DIRBE dust maps of the region. We use our map to correct the colors and magnitudes of each star to the value at the cluster center. The cluster horizontal branch (HB) is predominately blueward of the instability strip with 13 confirmed RR Lyrae variables and 5 additional RR Lyrae candidates. Using the 11 confirmed RR Lyraes measured on our images, and the differential reddening corrected photometry we calculate V(HB) = 15.56 +/- 0.063. We have used the simultaneous reddening and metallicity method of Sarajedini (1994) to find the mean reddening of the cluster E(B-V) = 0.32 +/- 0.03, and the mean metallicity [Fe/H] = -1.83 +/- 0.14. As for the age of NGC 4833, we find provisional evidence that NGC 4833 is 2 +/- 1 Gyr older than the average of M92 and M5. A more definitive conclusion must await higher resolution imaging of the cluster core where the effects of differential reddening are minimized.

NGC 4833 is a metal-poor Galactic globular cluster (GC) whose multiple stellar populations present an extreme chemical composition. The Na-O anti-correlation is quite extended, which is in agreement with the long tail on the blue horizontal branch, a nd the large star-to-star variations in the [Mg/Fe] ratio span more than 0.5 dex. Recently, significant excesses of Ca and Sc with respect to field stars of a similar metallicity were also found, signaling the production of species forged in H-burning at a very high temperature in the polluters of the first generation in this cluster. Since an enhancement of potassium is also expected under these conditions, we tested this scenario by analysing intermediate resolution spectra of 59 cluster stars including the K I resonance line at 7698.98 A. We found a wide spread of K abundances, anti-correlated to Mg and O abundances, as previously also observed in NGC 2808. The abundances of K are found to be correlated to those of Na, Ca, and Sc. Overall, this chemical pattern confirms that NGC 4833 is one of the relatively few GCs where the self-enrichment from first generation polluters occurred at such high temperatures that proton-capture reactions were able to proceed up to heavier species such as K and possibly Ca. The spread in K observed in GCs appears to be a function of a linear combination of cluster total luminosity and metallicity, as other chemical signatures of multiple stellar populations in GCs.
We present the results of CCD $UBV$ photometric and spectroscopic observations of the open cluster NGC 225. In order to determine the structural parameters of NGC 225, we calculated the stellar density profile in the clusters field. We estimated the probabilities of the stars being physical members of the cluster using the existing astrometric data. The most likely members of the cluster were used in the determination of the astrophysical parameters of the cluster. We calculated the mean radial velocity of the cluster as $V_{r}=-8.3pm 5.0$ km s$^{-1}$ from the optical spectra of eight stars in the clusters field. Using the U-B vs B-V two-colour diagram and UV excesses of the F-G type main-sequence stars, the reddening and metallicity of NGC 225 were inferred as $E(B-V)=0.151pm 0.047$ mag and $[Fe/H]=-0.11pm 0.01$ dex, respectively. We fitted the colour-magnitude diagrams of NGC 225 with the PARSEC isochrones and derived the distance modulus, distance and age of the cluster as $mu_{V}=9.3pm 0.07$ mag, d=585$pm$20 pc and $t=900pm 100$ Myr, respectively. We also estimated the galactic orbital parameters and space velocity components of the cluster and found that the cluster has a slightly eccentric orbit of $e=0.07pm 0.01$ and an orbital period of $P_{orb}= 255pm 5$ Myr.

(Abriged)This work studies in more detail the stellar population, including its photometric properties and characteristics, in the rarely studied southern Galactic globular cluster NGC 1261. We focus on the brighter sequences of the clusters color-ma gnitude diagram (CMD). Like in our previous works, we rely upon photometry in several passbands to achieve more reliable results and conclusions. We carried out and analyzed new multi-color photometry of NGC 1261 in UBVI reaching below the turnoff point in all passbands in a fairly extended cluster field, about 14x14. We found several signs of the inhomogeneity (multiplicity) in the stellar population. The most prominent of them are: (1) the dependence of the radial distribution of sub-giant branch (SGB) stars in the cluster on their U magnitude, with brighter stars less centrally concentrated at the 99.9 % level than their fainter counterparts; (2) the dependence of the location of red giant branch (RGB) stars in the U-(U-B) CMD on their radial distance from the cluster center, with the portion of stars bluer in the (U-B) color increasing towards the cluster outskirts. Additionally, the radial variation of the RGB luminosity function in the bump region is suspected. We assume that both the SGB stars brighter in the U and the RGB stars bluer in the (U-B) color are probably associated with blue horizontal branch stars, because of a similarity in their radial distribution in the cluster. We estimated the metalicity of NGC 1261 from the slope of the RGB in U-based CMDs and the location of the RGB bump on the branch. These metallicity indicators give [Fe/H]zw = -1.34 +/- 0.16 dex and [Fe/H]zw = -1.41 +/- 0.10 dex, respectively. We isolated 18 probable blue straggler candidates. They are more centrally concentrated than the lower red giants of comparable brightness at the 97.9 % level.

We present UBVI photometry of the old open cluster NGC 1193. Color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of this cluster show a well defined main sequence and a sparse red giant branch. For the inner region of r<50 arcsec, three blue straggler candidates are new ly found in addition to the objects Kaluzny (1988) already found. The color-color diagrams show that the reddening value toward NGC 1193 is E(B-V) =0.19 +/- 0.04. From the ultraviolet excess measurement, we derived the metallicity to be [Fe/H]=-0.45 +/- 0.12. A distance modulus of (m-M)_0 =13.3 +/- 0.15 is obtained from zero age main sequence fitting with the empirically calibrated Hyades isochrone of Pinsonneault et al. (2004). CMD comparison with the Padova isochrones by Bertelli et al. (1994) gives an age of log t =9.7 +/- 0.1.

UBVI CCD photometry is obtained for the open clusters NGC 4609 and Hogg 15 in Crux. For NGC 4609, CCD data are presented for the first time. From new photometry we derive the reddening, distance modulus and age of each cluster - NGC 4609 : E(B-V) = 0 .37 +/- 0.03, V_0 - M_V = 10.60 +/- 0.08, log tau = 7.7 +/- 0.1; Hogg 15 : E(B-V) = 1.13 +/- 0.11, V_0 - M_V = 12.50 +/- 0.15, log tau <= 6.6. The young age of Hogg 15 strongly implies that WR 47 is a member of the cluster. We have also determined the mass function of these clusters and have obtained a normal slope (Gamma = -1.2 +/- 0.3) for NGC 4609 and a somewhat shallow slope (Gamma = -0.95 +/- 0.5) for Hogg 15.
