This paper proposes a unified approach for studying global exponential stability of a general class of switched systems described by time-varying nonlinear functional differential equations. Some new delay-independent criteria of global exponential stability are established for this class of systems under arbitrary switching which satisfies some assumptions on the average dwell time. The obtained criteria are shown to cover and improve many previously known results, including, in particular, sufficient conditions for absolute exponential stability of switched time-delay systems with sector nonlinearities. Some simple examples are given to illustrate the proposed method.

We give a sufficient condition for exponential stability of a network of lossless telegraphers equations, coupled by linear time-varying boundary conditions. The sufficient conditions is in terms of dissipativity of the couplings, which is natural fo r instance in the context of microwave circuits. Exponential stability is with respect to any $L^p$-norm, $1leq pleqinfty$. This also yields a sufficient condition for exponential stability to a special class of linear time-varying difference delay systems which is quite explicit and tractable. One ingredient of the proof is that $L^p$ exponential stability for such difference delay systems is independent of $p$, thereby reproving in a simpler way some results from [3].

In this paper, we discuss delayed periodic dynamical systems, compare capability of criteria of global exponential stability in terms of various $L^{p}$ ($1le p<infty$) norms. A general approach to investigate global exponential stability in terms of various $L^{p}$ ($1le p<infty$) norms is given. Sufficient conditions ensuring global exponential stability are given, too. Comparisons of various stability criteria are given. More importantly, it is pointed out that sufficient conditions in terms of $L^{1}$ norm are enough and easy to implement in practice.
In this paper, we propose a method for bounding the probability that a stochastic differential equation (SDE) system violates a safety specification over the infinite time horizon. SDEs are mathematical models of stochastic processes that capture how states evolve continuously in time. They are widely used in numerous applications such as engineered systems (e.g., modeling how pedestrians move in an intersection), computational finance (e.g., modeling stock option prices), and ecological processes (e.g., population change over time). Previously the safety verification problem has been tackled over finite and infinite time horizons using a diverse set of approaches. The approach in this paper attempts to connect the two views by first identifying a finite time bound, beyond which the probability of a safety violation can be bounded by a negligibly small number. This is achieved by discovering an exponential barrier certificate that proves exponentially converging bounds on the probability of safety violations over time. Once the finite time interval is found, a finite-time verification approach is used to bound the probability of violation over this interval. We demonstrate our approach over a collection of interesting examples from the literature, wherein our approach can be used to find tight bounds on the violation probability of safety properties over the infinite time horizon.
In many large systems, such as those encountered in biology or economics, the dynamics are nonlinear and are only known very coarsely. It is often the case, however, that the signs (excitation or inhibition) of individual interactions are known. This paper extends to nonlinear systems the classical criteria of linear sign stability introduced in the 70s, yielding simple sufficient conditions to determine stability using only the sign patterns of the interactions.
We present a new framework for optimal and feedback control of PDEs using Koopman operator-based reduced order models (K-ROMs). The Koopman operator is a linear but infinite-dimensional operator which describes the dynamics of observables. A numerica l approximation of the Koopman operator therefore yields a linear system for the observation of an autonomous dynamical system. In our approach, by introducing a finite number of constant controls, the dynamic control system is transformed into a set of autonomous systems and the corresponding optimal control problem into a switching time optimization problem. This allows us to replace each of these systems by a K-ROM which can be solved orders of magnitude faster. By this approach, a nonlinear infinite-dimensional control problem is transformed into a low-dimensional linear problem. In situations where the Koopman operator can be computed exactly using Extended Dynamic Mode Decomposition (EDMD), the proposed approach yields optimal control inputs. Furthermore, a recent convergence result for EDMD suggests that the approach can be applied to more complex dynamics as well. To illustrate the results, we consider the 1D Burgers equation and the 2D Navier--Stokes equations. The numerical experiments show remarkable performance concerning both solution times and accuracy.
