We investigate the dynamics of charged dust interacting with the interplanetary magnetic field in a Parker spiral type model and subject to the solar wind and Poynting-Robertson effect in the vicinity of the 1:1 mean motion resonance with planet Jupiter. We estimate the shifts of the location of the minimum libration amplitude solutions close to the location of the L4 and L5 points of the classical - gravitational - problem and provide the extension of the librational regimes of motion and the width of the resonance in dependency of the nongravitational parameters related to the dust grain size and surface potential of the particles. Our study is based on numerical simulations in the framework of the spatial, elliptic restricted three-body problem and semi-analytical estimates obtained by averaging of Gauss planetary equations of motion.

Extrasolar systems with planets on eccentric orbits close to or in mean-motion resonances are common. The classical low-order resonant Hamiltonian expansion is unfit to describe the long-term evolution of these systems. We extend the Laplace-Lagrange secular approximation for coplanar systems with two planets by including (near-)resonant harmonics, and realize an expansion at high order in the eccentricities of the resonant Hamiltonian both at orders one and two in the masses. We show that the expansion at first order in the masses gives a qualitative good approximation of the dynamics of resonant extrasolar systems with moderate eccentricities, while the second order is needed to reproduce more accurately their orbital evolutions. The resonant approach is also required to correct the secular frequencies of the motion given by the Laplace-Lagrange secular theory in the vicinity of a mean-motion resonance. The dynamical evolutions of four (near-)resonant extrasolar systems are discussed, namely GJ 876 (2:1 resonance), HD 60532 (3:1), HD 108874 and GJ 3293 (close to 4:1).
Dust growth is often neglected when building models of protoplanetary disks due to its complexity and computational expense. However, it does play a major role in shaping the evolution of protoplanetary dust and planet formation. In this paper, we pr esent a numerical model coupling 2-D hydrodynamic evolution of a protoplanetary disk, including a Jupiter-mass planet, and dust coagulation. This is obtained by including multiple dust fluids in a single grid-based hydrodynamic simulation and solving the Smoluchowski equation for dust coagulation on top of solving for the hydrodynamic evolution. We find that fragmentation of dust aggregates trapped in a pressure bump outside of the planetary gap leads to an enhancement in density of small grains. We compare the results obtained from the full coagulation treatment to the commonly used, fixed dust size approach and to previously applied, less computationally intensive methods for including dust coagulation. We find that the full coagulation results cannot be reproduced using the fixed-size treatment, but some can be mimicked using a relatively simple method for estimating the characteristic dust size in every grid cell.
We investigate the combined effect of solar wind, Poynting-Robertson drag, and the frozen-in interplanetary magnetic field on the motion of charged dust grains in our solar system. For this reason we derive a secular theory of motion by the means of averaging method and validate it with numerical simulations of the un-averaged equations of motions. The theory predicts that the secular motion of charged particles is mainly affected by the z-component of the solar magnetic axis, or the normal component of the interplanetary magnetic field. The normal component of the interplanetary magnetic field leads to an increase or decrease of semi-major axis depending on its functional form and sign of charge of the dust grain. It is generally accepted that the combined effects of solar wind and photon absorption and re-emmision (Poynting-Robertson drag) lead to a decrease in semi-major axis on secular time scales. On the contrary, we demonstrate that the interplanetary magnetic field may counteract these drag forces under certain circumstances. We derive a simple relation between the parameters of the magnetic field, the physical properties of the dust grain as well as the shape and orientation of the orbital ellipse of the particle, which is a necessary conditions for the stabilization in semi-major axis.

We study the capture and crossing probabilities into the 3:1 mean motion resonance with Jupiter for a small asteroid that migrates from the inner to the middle Main Belt under the action of the Yarkovsky effect. We use an algebraic mapping of the ave raged planar restricted three-body problem based on the symplectic mapping of Hadjidemetriou (1993), adding the secular variations of the orbit of Jupiter and non-symplectic terms to simulate the migration. We found that, for fast migration rates, the captures occur at discrete windows of initial eccentricities whose specific locations depend on the initial resonant angles, indicating that the capture phenomenon is not probabilistic. For slow migration rates, these windows become narrower and start to accumulate at low eccentricities, generating a region of mutual overlap where the capture probability tends to 100%, in agreement with the theoretical predictions for the adiabatic regime. Our simulations allow to predict the capture probabilities in both the adiabatic and non-adiabatic cases, in good agreement with results of Gomes (1995) and Quillen (2006). We apply our model to the case of the Vesta asteroid family in the same context as Roig et al. (2008), and found results indicating that the high capture probability of Vesta family members into the 3:1 mean motion resonance is basically governed by the eccentricity of Jupiter and its secular variations.
ALMA surveys have suggested that the dust in Class II disks may not be enough to explain the averaged solid mass in exoplanets, under the assumption that the mm disk continuum emission is optically thin. This optically thin assumption seems to be sup ported by recent DSHARP observations where the measured optical depths of spatially resolved disks are mostly less than one. However, we point out that dust scattering can considerably reduce the emission from an optically thick region. If that scattering is ignored, the optical depth will be considerably underestimated. An optically thick disk with scattering can be misidentified as an optically thin disk. Dust scattering in more inclined disks can reduce the intensity even further, making the disk look even fainter. The measured optical depth of $sim$0.6 in several DSHARP disks can be naturally explained by optically thick dust with an albedo of $sim$0.9 at 1.25 mm. Using the DSHARP opacity, this albedo corresponds to a dust population with the maximum grain size ($s_{max}$) of 0.1-1 mm. For optically thick scattering disks, the measured spectral index $alpha$ can be either larger or smaller than 2 depending on if the dust albedo increases or decreases with wavelength. Using the DSHARP opacity, $alpha<2$ corresponds to $s_{max}$ of 0.03-0.3 mm. We describe how this optically thick scattering scenario could explain the observed scaling between submm continuum sizes and luminosities, and might help ease the tension between the dust size constraints from polarization and dust continuum measurements. We suggest that a significant amount of disk mass can be hidden from ALMA observations at short millimeter wavelengths. For compact disks smaller than 30 au, we can easily underestimate the dust mass by more than a factor of 10. Longer wavelength observations (e.g. VLA or SKA) are desired to probe the dust mass in disks.
